"I have no "religion" but rather faith in Christ and as weak as it is at times still it is a comfort to me."

That is nice for you but has nothing to do with the truth. Christianity is a sham and what a shame because

so many have invested hugely in that dogma. So what if you have faith? That is merely pretending to know

something that you don't know so cut the preaching. Delusional organization those religions.

"Sigh"...  Doubtless your portrait is nearly done.  How else would one account for such sadness at a life so unfulfilled?  Worse still is the fact that its a paint-by-numbers job.

Run out of blue, did you?

why would religious people cry at funerals if they really believed their loved one was in a better place.

Well, believers do draw comfort in knowing their loved ones that have passed (who were also believers) are with their Lord; although, those that have not yet passed from this life (those "left behind") do experience loss as they miss and long for their loved ones that have "gone on to a better place".  There's still pain associated with their loved ones no longer being with them (even if only temporarily).

I just thought this notion was universally understood and experienced.....maybe I'm wrong.

What is the sham you reference?

I'm going to give my 2 cents worth of opinion on this issue.
For starters I grew up as a moderate Christian and even went to Sunday school until age 15.
As I studied various religions and world history , I changed my view.

I'm NOT a Christian now, because I don't believe in the: resurrection , virgin birth or think Jesus was the actual son of GOD.
I DO think  the teachings of Jesus have some unique spiritual wisdom and may have been divinely inspired.
In my opinion, the Bible offers some timeless  spiritual wisdom and is worth reading.

My profession is teaching physics , and that helps guide my intellect.
BUT, only a fool would try to fall in love using some scientific equation.
Love and faith are real experiences  to us as humans, but quite different from a mathematical science.

My brain uses logic to decide the correct answers in physics or accounting, etc.
My heart and soul guides me when it comes to questions of love and faith.
As humans we can and should do BOTH.

You are going to get slivers up your butt sitting on the fence.

You can actually apply principles to make someone fall in love with you. It works only if the person already likes you a bit.

Then it is all formulas.

I wonder where this heaven is supposed to be if everything that exists is in the universe? All those Muslims trying to die

as martyrs assuming they will be resurrected with cocks to enjoy all those virgins. What absolute folly. You won't

see a religious leader sacrificing himself...only the knucklehead followers.

People can believe in magic but they know it is clever tricks. The sort of supernatural magic is plainly just wishful

thinking. Imagine having Getbig in the sky with all the Flotsam and jerks there! No thanks.

I don't have answers for all questions.
All I do know is that the universe is much bigger then my intellect.
Like any other slob, I'm just trying to figure it as best I can on my own terms.

FYI , you had me with  " up your butt" in the first line of your reply.
Thank GOD you used a getbig friendly phrase.

Gravity is strong around Vince.  Either that or his life just plain sucks.

A wise person once said, we can choose to be better or bitter.  It's not as though anyone is still stealing your lunch money.  One not know Christ or for that matter hold fast to any other belief to know happiness.  All that is required is to know yourself and then change for the better.

Bitter old man.  I don't feel "sad" for you.  I save that emotion for those that suffer your insufferable presence.

Atheism nas no morals, no accounting for itself, no objective standard, and it teaches that everything is time and chance acting on matter.

Atheism=blind faith

Wrong. Atheism leads to a greater morality.

When you realize that this is all there is, mature humans become compelled to make THIS world as much like heaven as possible and not wait for some improbable afterlife for all wrongs to be righted.

Thank you but it would be a lie for me to say I am always "pleasant" or "good" or even Christian in my behavior.  I have shamed my faith here and in the real world in the past, present and doubtless the future.  This does not mean my faith is made false by my actions and words,  but rather that I am just a man and thereby subject to all that entails.

If I were to lie to you regarding that side of me and in doing so not take responsibility for myself, then I would be less than that.

Thanks again.

You bullshit all day long...and night, too. First you make excuses for God, then religion, and now yourself.

When you lose the argument just attack the other personally. That works here on Getbig among the unwashed Flotsam who will applaud your vulgarity.

Oh, the irony of a religious believer accusing someone else of "blind faith". A few questions for the true believers:

1. Is the Earth really just 5,000 years old, despite core samples, radiometric dating, and carbon dating of fossils that prove it is at least 4.5 billion years old?

2. Did God put all the dinosaur bones in the ground? Why would He make them so much older than the Universe he created (in a mere 7 days)?

3. Why did Adam and Eve have bellybuttons? Were they not created by God, and thus not birthed by a woman, and thus would not have had umbilical cords in the womb, and thus would not have had bellybuttons? If Adam and Eve did not have bellybuttons, how did they populate the Earth? If they did have bellybuttons and were created in God's image, does that mean that God has a bellybutton? Why would God have a bellybutton?

4. If Adam and Eve did populate the world as the Bible says, wouldn't their offspring be guilty of incest? After all, the the sons and daughters of Adam and Eve would have married their own sisters and brothers if the race was to populate the earth. Doesn't the Bible prohibit incest in Leviticus and Deuteronomy?

Etcetera, etcetera...

Paint-by-numbers life portrait in "progress".    Do you fancy yourself as Picasso or perhaps more along the lines of Van Gogh?  Wyeth?  Rembrandt?  Monet?

None of the above.   Doran Gray suits your kind.  Pathetic imitation of life.  Run along now before I taunt you some more.   ;D

Grow out of this, Vince.  Please.  Use the Force.  Use the Farce.  Use your mind but for the sake of yourself, grow out of this.

all you show is that the kent hovids of the world are idiots. ok that's cool, but what does that have to do with whether there is a god or not?
that's just that idiot's interpretation and disproving them is easy. but proving an idiot wrong is no big deal.

they don't decide the definition of god for everyone else. the word "god" does not have a fixed definition beyond omniscience.  (note omni + science)

btw i think the estimate is 13.7 billion years.

I do not know who "Kent Hovids" is. Never heard the name before. These are questions I have for theists, and they rarely can come up with rational answers.

You are partially correct about the age of the Universe being 13 billion years old. That is the maximum estimated age. The minimum age is that it is at least 4.5 billion years. The actual age probably falls somewhere between (based on what scientists know so far), although I believe it will be closer to the high end.

he's one of those exploitative preachers who help popularize all the crap you cited. he even started dinosaurland in florida, an amusment park to propagandize they never existed.

he ended up in jail for tax fraud i believe. look him up if you want, he's a posterboy for nonsense.

those are not questions for theists, they are questions for people who hold those beliefs, namely christian sects, but not all of them and certainly not other religions.

Every religion claims to have answers to questions like "How did the Universe start?" and "Where did Man come from?", although those answers vary from religion to religion.

1)  The Earth is much older than 5,000 years.  Doesn't bother me that it is reeeeeeeally old.  ;D

2)  Dinosaurs died.  I'm just glad they were around before we were!  Don't think that way?  Try watching Jurassic Park and get back to me.  ;D

3)  People painted pictures of what they thought Adam and Eve looked like. Naturally they put belly buttons on them.  I have no clue what they really looked like but if you truly want to know just ask Wiggs.  He will start with them being black dontcha know.   ;D

4)  It would appear that yes, they did have incestuous relationships.  Either that or Moses left out something in the Bible (no!  A man would never do that!).  I have no idea but again, it does not bother me that I don't.   ;D

There is also a flood story in Greek/Roman mythology wherein the two survivors are told to repopulate the Earth by throwing the "bones of their mother" over their shoulders.

Turns out they had to throw rocks (i.e., the bones of Mother Earth) over their shoulders and human beings popped up.  Clever, huh?  Doesn't bother me in the least.   ;D

Hope this helps.   But in the event it does not?  Well, it doesn't bother me.  ;D

exactly, that's why i said you can't put those questions to "theists" but to those who believe those specific things.

in other words you can't ask a jew(a theist) to defend or prove what a christian(a fellow theist) believes. because he doesn't believe it.

thinking. Imagine having Getbig in the sky with all the Flotsam and jerks there! No thanks.

But isn't it magical that our whole solar system developed out of a solar dust nebula? Don't you think that is a very fantastic concept? I mean it is magic right? If you had a magician on stage and he conjured a living being out of dust in front of your eyes you would think that's magic right? Well, guess what, that is exactly what happened to our solar system and you and your dumbbells. Only it took close to 5 billion years.

You think that is all chance? Would you say Chance is the"Creator"? See any way you look at it the Universe was created - even if it was Chance. The forces in the Universe has to be just right for the Solar System to develop out of a nebula. The precision is so extreme that scientists concede it cannot be by chance - the odds are too great. So some scientist reason there has to be trillions of multi-universes so they can feel more comfortable with those odds. They are fudging as they go along. Nobody can prove there is no Creator. The proof for a Creator is the Universe. It is the responsibility of an atheist to disprove the existence of a Creator. And they can't.

"They are fudging as they go along." No, they are not. Science is real (unlike the Bible) and is based on tangible, measurable results.

"It is the responsibility of an atheist to disprove the existence of a Creator." No, it is not, anymore than it is the "responsibility" of the religious to prove the existence of God (which they can't).

So you have no clue and that doesn't bother you?

Do you want me to lie to you?

I don't have all the answers to a great many things, why would I pretend otherwise?  I will not know either the truth of falsehood of not only my faith but of any and everything until I die.  It is only then that we will know either peace or nothing.

To paraphrase (albeit poorly) , who among us can add a single inch to their height by worrying about that which we have no control over?  There are those among us smarter than either of us and still what they posit is supposition.  Educated supposition but all the same a shot in the dark.  They can mathematically prove things but we cannot always see the proof.  And yet they believe.  Not a problem.

I have my faith and the hope it provides.  I do not seek to disprove dinosaurs or the age of the Earth to name but two subjects.  I accept them and move on.  Just because something is not mentioned in the Bible does not make it non-existent.  Neither you nor I are written in the Bible and yet here we are!

I merely seek to be written in the Book of Life.  You do not.  Not a problem.

Be well.
