The fact that light from distant galaxies hasn't reached us yet makes my head spin. Everything about space is interesting.

Ohhhh. Where did you see/get that? I would love to get it for my son. Astronomical size comparison is very hard to transmit to kids.

Barring anything else, I will. There's something tangible about holding the sphere which would hammer it home better.

This helped on the small side.

I can't remember -  thought I saw it on geekologie (Funniest blog ever) but can't recall.  Just googled the description to get the pic.

If I spend to much  time thinking about the vastness of the universe, it makes me want to curl up into the fetal position under the blankets and go to sleep.

My son is convinced that he can solve artificial gravity and build star drives. He just needs to get through Common Core math first  ;)

Will he be using a gravity suit?  If so, I think someone here can help him.

This is the crab nebula, a star that exploded 800 years ago.  Astronomers estimate that there is enough dust swirling around to build 40000 earths.  Mind boggling.

Why?  Its a waste because you will just tell them that Scientists don`t know what they are talking about, global warming is a myth and then proceed to vote and support people who think the universe is 6000 years old and that "god did it" and nothing evolved.

Just buy him an Iphone instead.

He likes to support politicians that subscribe to that idea.  Even attends fundraisers for them.  Bizarre really.

He thinks Climate Change is a sham and that 99 percent of scientists don`t have it right on that issue.  So I think he could choose a better gift more in line with his values.

Maybe a Sarah Palin bobblehead doll or something.

The vastness of space is truly mind-boggling.....light years especially.....it amazing that space is so  vast that it could take 100,000 years to get to another solar system...and that's if we were traveling the speed of light...AMAZING

Also...it always fascinates me as to EXACTLY WHAT was here BEFORE the Universe

Yes, I can rectify it: TA is a miserable little democrat bitch.

I am a conservative/libertarian that supports small government, individualist candidates with my considerable largess.

I am a Catholic who supports the pro-life position and (*gasp*) believes in evolution.

I am a climate skeptic because meteorologists can't figure out if a snowstorm is going to hit NYC in 12 hours, how the fuck can they predict temperatures 200 years in the future?

Deal with it, bitches.
