Take the True Adonis Getbig Mile challenge!
« on: February 04, 2015, 03:26:45 PM »
In another thread TA suggested doing an all out mile of running after lifting.
Let's do it!

LOL!!! Running on a treadmill vs. a track is different worlds.  No comparison.

What are you talking about? There are world class runners who do some of their training on a treadmill. The difference between running on a treadmill and the road isn't that great. Research shows running a say a 6 minute mile on the road is the same as running a 6 minute mile on grade 1% in terms of energy used.

you can't be serious. I did some interval running outside and it was seriously 10 times harder than a treadmill.

one mile isn't much of a run... I like to start at like 6mph on the treadmill and go up to 7 after a couple minutes, then 8 and stay there as long as I can, then start the whole process over again until I've run for 5 miles... I try to make a goal of at least 10 minutes a mile

I ran track in high school and college. I also have some elite training running in boots. LOL.

In 2008 the journal Medicine & Science in Sports and Exercise 40(6), 1093-1100 showed there are some statistically significant differences, such as knee orientation and peak force but overall the researchers concluded the biomechanics  are close enough to running on a treadmill compared to over ground running that the differences doesn't matter. This was a kinematics and kenetic comparison of over ground and treadmill running. This was reported by Alex Hutchinson Ph.D.

Air resistance varies of course outside but most researchers say you will come close to reproducing energy level used by adjusting the treadmill up a 1% grade. This is reported in the Journal of Sports Sciences 1996 14(4), 321-327 by Andrew Jones and Jonathan Doust,"A 1% treadmill grade most accurately reflects the energetic cost of outdoor running.

Bottom line, If you can run a 6 minute mile on a treadmill at a 1% incline you can run around a 6 minute mile outside. Many elite runners who live in snow climates do a lot of their winter running on treadmills.

Believe me I'm no fan of treadmills. I like to get outside and run. Now that there's ice everywhere by me I have been in my basement hitting the miles on the hamster machine.

Your reply reminds of the thin girl chatting amongst the chunky babes.

We see you , we get it, you wear size 6 jeans.  :D

Not at all bro, I stopped lifting for like 3 years and got fat as hell, decided to get back in shape and started running on the treadmill, at first I would do 5 miles and it would take me over an hour maybe almost 2, I worked up to what I do now.  If your gym has it, after your run sit in the steam room or sauna for like 20 minutes, for some reason that helps build stamina

About 7 years ago I use to run a hard mile after chest and arm day. I got down to a 6 minute mile that nearly killed me. When I was younger I would have said there is no way a 6 minute mile is hard running but age gets the best of us. Right now I feel like I'm running a million miles an hour if I do a 7 minute mile. Getting old stinks. Don't think you are immune young getbiggers from getting old.

"Your Hardcore Run May Be as Dangerous as Sitting Around Doing Nothing"

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-02-02/light-joggers-can-outlast-the-ironmen-over-long-term

"The researchers found those who jogged one to 2.4 hours a week at a slow or average pace with no more than three running days in a week had the best survival rates. Anything longer than that left runners with death rates closer to those who didn’t run at all, the authors said."

A 1-2 mile run daily isn`t hardcore running, genius.

You're so full of shit claiming to have run at 5 mph for exactly 12 minutes.

Bingo. Why do these numb nuts post this stuff?

if it took you 12 minutes for a mile , then it would be 24 minutes for 2 miles but I would bet a hundred right now you couldn't set your treadmill to 5 and run for 24 minutes straight.

Maybe someone like you would struggle with 5-12 minutes of cardio a day.  That is plausible for sure.

would it be considered vigorous?

"Vigorous running -- faster than 7 miles an hour, more than three times a week - - could be almost as harmful as sitting around doing nothing, according to a new cardiology study "

Thats dumb as shit.

What if I were to run 7 MPH, for 20 seconds four times a week  Total of 80 seconds.  Is that harmful or fatal?    ::)

Doctor Ken Cooper who has done more research on aerobic cardio exercise than just about anyone put it simply. He said in effect if you are running more than 3 miles a day you are doing it to become a better athlete and not necessarily to increase your health.

Cardio has prevented more heart attacks than it has caused. The first thing Doctors have you do in cardiac rehab is cardio exercise.

Cardio  can do the following things for your health.

Lower your resting heart rate that illustrates your heart muscle is stronger.

Low blood fats as in triglycerides.

Lower visceral fat that causes metabolic problems like diabetes.

Lower high blood sugar

In many it can lower blood pressure

It can change the ratios of HDL and LDL for the better.

Lower subcutaneous fat.

Running can increase bone density.

Many report lower incidence of depression after starting a cardio routine

Can lower cholesterol from less visceral fat that can lead to metabolic problems causing a liver to produce more cholesterol.

Increases capillaries alternate pathways in the blood supplies to the heart that can spell the difference between life and death when a blockage occurs.

Cardio can lower inflammation which many doctors believe the C reactive protein test can be a predictor of risk for heart problems.

That's all I can think of for now. Is cardio activities like running a cure all? Obviously no, but it can lower the risk factors and in life putting the odds in your favor is always a wise move.

Ok Capt Obvious.

In related news, fake boobs feel different then real ones.

* Since this is a gym based post lift challenge the treadmill made sense Capt.
Plus it's winter right now for many people.

I was doing my intervalls outside man. Killer shit. While walking the dog too, fucker made me run way too fast in the sprints, lol!

Well if it's so obvious, how the hell could someone have mistaken it for being equal??? Riddle me that, lol!!!

Plus I live in Quebec, don't give me no pussy boy excuses of not doing it during winter wherever you are, lol...

How,would you know ?  the last time you ran with a  purpose...you were 11 years old and the wind took your kite out of your hands

 :D

you ever see those sick plays in a football game?  Where one supremely athletic guy jumps right  over another guy ? completely making him his bitch?

that's what I would do to you.  only I wouldn't jump completely over you, I would make sure my ass hit you in the forehead and fart at the same time....completely covering you in fart molecules
