Excellent points, Spot on
Interesting how yes bodybuilding is still such a niche activity despite the explosion of gyms everywhere.
Figure competition for women is booming nonetheless...
It literally baffles my mind. I thought bodybuilding got a bad rap because it contained so many arrogant d bags (who weren't anyone anyhow) but the same "type" of guy is doing men's physique, and people love it (I'm not saying they're all d bags but those stereotypes have stuck with builders, even though most are some of the nicest most helpful guys ever when it comes to life style info).
I know just as many dudes that talk about/compete in men's physique competitions as I do that follow/compete in bb. I still don't even understand what exactly men's physique is.
Bodybuilding did itself in by going to extremes. When Arnold ripped Dorian for having to much mass during his Mr. O run everyone saw it as sour grapes and Arnold being stuck in the past and not being able to come to grips with the natural progress of the sport, which maybe somewhat valid. However, once again, Arnold was ahead of the curve and saw this train wreck coming from miles away. More guys want to look like that druggie Zzyzes (however it's spelled) then any other druggie in the ifbb. ..... That should speak volumes, and I think that's why the board shorts comp is so popular.
Don't even get me started on the bikini/figure chick's at the gym. I know a handful of them, they don't talk with one another, compete in the same shows let alone support each other. They're all mid 20s, in relationships or married to dudes that don't do any sort of training. It's strange (although this could be exclusive to my gym but it's still weird).
