Cop on Paid Leave After Allegedly Tickling Body of Man (unarmed) Killed by Police

A California police officer has been placed on paid leave after he allegedly tickled and tampered with the dead body of a man who was shot and killed by police, according to the New York Daily News.

Lawyer Mark Geragos told the NYDN that the Bakersfield, California officer, Aaron Stringer, pulled on Ramiro James Villegas‘s toes and said “tickle tickle” while touching Villegas’s feet. He also allegedly told a trainee probationary officer that he “loved” to play with dead bodies, and tried opening Villegas’s mouth, according to KBAK.

“We are grossly disturbed by the ghoulish behavior of the police,” Geragos told the NYDN. “The family wants answers and accountability.”

The Bakersfield Californian newspaper published an internal report on Friday which detailed the allegations. Bakersfield Police Chief Greg Williamson called Stringer’s alleged comments “disturbing,” placing him on paid leave. According to that newspaper, the alleged incident occurred at a hospital as Villegas’s body was laying on a gurney.

nice history lesson......you should be commended..good job

Any time.

By the by, back in those days, whites (no doubt aided by the police on many occasions) invading black communities was something usual.

Kind of like what is happening nowadays with ISIS in the Middle East, instead it happened right here in the US, all over the country, north and south. Lynchings, public illegal executions (pigs watching,) public burnings, et cetera.

Whites going mad. Like ISIS in the Middle East.

Can you point me to a link which reports a public lynchings, with "pigs" watching, in the US?

Look for it.

If it were true you would be posting links all over the place and it would be huge news all over the world.

So you just made it up.

Typical. Just tell a blatant lie to support a view point that doesn't exist.

Coincidentally, Tulsa is the only place in the continental US to have sustained aerial bombardment.

In the spring of 1921, during one of those episodes of the country's history that's best not to talk about, gangs of white Tulsonians, helped no doubt by the local law enforcement teams, tried and failed in the forceful expulsion of the African American population in the city.

At one point during the event, planes from a local air base were deployed and the black neighborhoods were bombarded to smithereens, while gangs of gun-carrying whites massacred the retreating the African American Tulsonians.

White law enforcement officials, both police as well as military personnel, played an active part in the event.

But hey, race has nothing to do with what's going on nowadays.

It's all an imagination.

I'm white by the way.

Why do you hate black people?

I looked over this page briefly. There are some things, like the possiblity the taser prongs were in the officer that I didn't think about. But even had they been, and even if the authors speculation that he fired because he 1. thought the prongs were still in him (possible) and 2. He didn't know Scott didn't have the taser (possible) my reaction would have been like many of the subjects tased in the past, pull the prong out, rendering the taser inefffective if deployed again, not shoot 8 times.

The more I look into the situation I think there is a chance Officer Slager is going to come out this with a slap on the wrist rather than significant prison time.

If every word and supposition in that article was accurate and completely true, I think it may mitigate the sentence, but still, I've tased enough people to know that in between the cycle (5 seconds each cycle) if the prongs are in a reachable area, if they are pulled out it renders the taser practically ineffective. So yes, it is a tense situation, yes his adrenaline is high, yes he just got tased or attempted tasing (again, not saying it happened, but if the article is true) you had a choice between pulling the prong out of your chest which takes 1/10 of a second, or drawing your handgun, taking aim, and firing 8 shots down range, 5 striking the subject and you pick door number 2, that's a hard sell.

That's a New one to me.
What had / was the man who got shot doing.
Why was the cop kneeling on his head if he
Was shot, not a clear video only he didn't
Appear to be struggling.

Cop totally said sorry, what more do you want?

First degree murder is going to be extremely difficult for the prosecution to prove if the officers own tazer was used being against him.

I think it would behoove the DA to go for a charge a little less extreme.

Murder was not a good charge to begin with. Manslaughter would be the appropriate charge. I am assuming the DA knew this going in, but bumped the charge in hopes of using it to his or her advantage during pre trial bargaining.

you go into tunnel vision mode when in combat

your ability to process reasonable thoughts is overtaken by fight or flight syndrome

after two minutes of fighting

unless you are a robot

you act first think later

its that simple

For the most part I agree with you. However, we are still held accountable for our decisions otherwise every time a cop gets into a fight he can just shoot the person and we can chalk it up to tunnel vision and fight or flight. Now I've never been tased by a suspect, don't know if Slagel was or not. But I have been in some down and dirty fights were bad guy was trying to take my duty weapon. I can pretty well put myself in Slagels shoes based on my experience. If fighting a suspect puts him in such a state that he will calmly draw his weapon and fire off 8 shots down range.. the guy has more than just manslaughter charges to worry about.

I'l also say again, that IF his report reflects pretty much what happened..taking the adrenaline and tunnel vision into account, I can see him not getting the maximum possible sentence. By all appearances he seemed like a cop trying to handle a traffic stop that turned into a foot pursuit and then a physical altercation. He made a really bad decision in the end which ended a life and no doubt screwed up his. But decades in prison for it wouldn't be justice.
But if it becomes apparent he tried to cover it up or lie about what happened... all bets are off

I think he is fucked

I think he executed the guy

but I think he wasn't thinking rationally at the time

should be a mitigating factor

maybe manslaughter instead of murder

or what ever the equivalent is in the usa

give people guns civilian or cop

and people get killed

if he only had non lethal options the outcome is the guy lives

and he gets to go on with his life

guns are too effective humans don't have the ability to use them wisely

we never have and never will

I get that it is enshrined within your constitution

but people are going to keep dying

its as simple as that
