If Yates did not retire after the 1997 Mr O...

And Ronnie did beat him in 1998 or 99...

I imagine that Yates would've upped his doses dramatically and competed around 285LBS in an attempt to reclaim the title

Im not saying Ronnie didn't have a distended gut, but using a picture of haney sucking in and ronnie relaxing isnt a painting the real picture.

Once again, Im not saying Ronnie didn't have a gut but come on man, thats so lame. Post a real comparison.

even Ronnie's tris were huge and shreaded at this show, long before the tri tears of his later career. insane when he hits the side tri shot in his posing routine.

Ronnie is on another level.

Not from that show but it's one of his best back pictures. This cannot be beaten.

Kevin really holding his own there, and honestly he's winning that MM shot. I was never a fan of Ronnie's back, the way the erectors and lats connect is odd I think. Kevin there is just huge and shredded especially under that light. His back might not be the widest onstage, but it's PLENTY thick to hang with Ronnie here. Kevin's only flaws from the front is that he looks a bit narrow unless he's in a pose that lets his tris stick out and his lats aren't spectacular. He has a great chest, but it can be hidden in the MM pose he always hits. His arms crush crush Ronnie in the MM though, super thick.

Kevin's back was actually wide in the RLS, but lacked serious thickness in the BDB.

True. I've never seen lats that thick in the BDB and the "pop" Ronnie's lats have is out of this world.

2000 BGP.

why do kevin's delts look so puffy and smooth against ronnie's in the rdb?

I know he has been accused of injecting esceline in the past, but what is going on here??

they really overpower the rest of his arms (tris/bi's) in that shot.

Best lighting ever. 1999 imo was the peak of bodybuilding, physique wise. After that it begin to decline.

Looking back, one of the signs that bodybuilding was on the decline was the over-promotion of Greg Kovacs. He stepped on the scene when bodybuilding was in its prime.... The mid 90's. He was promoted excessively into the late 90's (and beyond). It was ridiculous.

MuscleMag & MuscleTech did the bodybuilding world a huge disservice by acting like Greg had the ideal look. Overwhelming bodyweight coupled with nearly inhuman training poundages.

Then he competed @ the 1997 NOC. He was one of the first guys ever to use synthol. He got crushed.

Are Ronnie's glutes normal?  They seem to go halfway down the back of his leg !  No HOMO.

Do you think this contributed to his crazy leg strength?

Honestly it could have. Since lifting is all about angles, lengths and power applied. Hence why top power lifters are different looking inserts and proportions that's what there body is set up to do. So it's quite possibly his lower inserts had a postitive effect on his lifting movements

Well, you often hear that the glutes are the strongest muscle in the body (I don't know if this is true or not, but it seems to a popular belief among the mainstream).  So I guess having excessively large glute muscles would help you in movements like the squat, deadlift and leg press, all lifts with which Ronnie moved crazy poundage.

I agree with you. I have a small ass and my glutes get smoked after squats. If I had a crazy muscular ass I know I could lift a lot more. Especially with low insertion points. They would act like a spring any any compound exercise
