This feels quite Shizzo'esque. I would think if somebody hit a stationary car at 100mph, the papers would have covered it. Flimsy story feels flimsy.

I don't believe the OP is/was ill-intended.  The email was probably received, honestly believed and presented in-tact.  The authenticity of the email is what is questionable.

If I was going to fake my own death (or soon to be death), Id pick something more inventive.

Like, I was rushing into a house that was on fire to save a family. Or, I was walking down the street late at night and I tried to stop a robbery. Or I was bench pressing 685 for 7 reps and the  bar fell on my throat.
