Breaking: Baltimore Police Finish Inquiry Into Freddie Gray Death

Source: New York Times

By RICHARD PÉREZ-PEÑA
APRIL 30, 2015
The Baltimore police have finished their investigation into how a young man suffered a fatal spinal injury while in police custody, and have handed their findings off to prosecutors, officials said Thursday.

The announcement opens a new phase in a case that has riveted the city, sparking demonstrations and unrest, as the focus shifts to the new, relatively untested state’s attorney for Baltimore, Marilyn J. Mosby. Her office will fold the police findings into its own investigation.

But officials continued to warn that completion of the police inquiry would not translate into new revelations for the public about what happened on April 12 to Freddie Gray, the 25-year-old man who died. The Police Department has stated that it will not disclose what it has found, and Ms. Mosby’s office has said that it does not expect to make any significant release of information until it has assembled a more complete picture of the incident.

If the state’s attorney decides it wants to prosecute any of the officers involved, it will take its case to a grand jury to seek an indictment. In all, criminal charges could still be months away, if they come at all.

In other words, our police officers totally screwed up and we do not want to release this information until we can find a way to cover-up the facts.

Or it means -

"We're not going to level charges, or they're going to be light, and we want Jamal and Tyrone to have a few months of cooling off before we announce it. For God's sake, think of the poor Orioles....".

Yes Officer Stadinko. Your theory sounds quote plausible.

Please let us know when the "hot doughnuts" light is illuminated.

they have found out what happened, so everyone can relax.

of course, they're not going to tell us what happened.

No, IF they choose to release that, it'll be months down the road.  Probably winter-time, the day of the first big cold snowstorm to ensure nobody comes outside.

And their reasoning?  We don't want to upset people.  The same people they 'gave room to destroy' stuff.

Seriously? When was the last time you saw a gang NOT jump in when their homey's getting pummeled? Mexis are especially good at this. Equally "bad."

But :51 is just a dude getting pulled out his car window, big deal.

Larry Wilmore Sits Down with Baltimore Gangsters for Pie and Riot Talk

While the rest of TV news may be content to simply look at footage of people who may or may not be gangsters, Larry Wilmore actually took the time to go down to Baltimore, sit at a diner with five of the city’s gang members, and eat some pie while talking about their response to the riots that have brought the city to national attention.

As one of the men told Wilmore, there wasn’t a formal agreement for rival gangs to band together — “We just had men respecting men as men,” he described it — but that they’d all come together over the bond of being constantly “pushed into a corner” by the police. That’s the kind of thing, they noted, that most Americans would understand: “When you go, ‘Hey man, I gotta pay my property tax!’ I can’t relate to that. I never paid property tax before.” (Wilmore then benevolently explained the oppression millionaires faced from the property tax.)

The conversation touched numerous subjects: Protecting property from rioters, trading sandwiches with the police, and, surprisingly, maybe seeing seen Jon Stewart at the protests. (Wilmore deadpanned: “Jon Stewart is nowhere around here, guys.”)

I gotta say, in this case...

"Gangs unite to kill cops".   False.  Gangs having pie and laughing and promising to protect innocent life.

"Prisoner broke his own spine".    False.  They're charged with killing his ass, covering it up.

A whole lot of bad info out there this week, on this story.

Meh. They better hope this doesn't fall apart on them. It looks like they're charging too high again.

What is the current charge? Seems it should manslaughter, if anything. Didn't belt him in, and he probably flew into screen during commute. They've got film of everything else; they certainly would have film of the cops deliberately severing his spine as well, if that's what they're charging.

No beating in these videos, though. But I get it, you hate ALL cops.

Honest question: Would you prefer no cops at all, all black cops, continuing to weed out bad cops, or something not yet considered? Curious of the mindset is all.

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/05/02/us/freddie-gray-autopsy-report-given-to-baltimore-prosecutors.html .

It's 2nd degree murder for one, assault for another, etc....

At worst, it looks like it should be involuntary manslaughter, or something close to that for the top charge. They're charging high to try to pacify the rioters, etc.... , and I bet it blows back on them.

I think they did the city disservice by doing that. When the facts come out it may be likely that lesser charges will be Indicted on..  Causing the cop haters  to take to the streets and scream  frame up or no justice again as they  replenish their toilet paper supply

Weeding out the bad cops will never fully happen, and race has nothing to do with my personal agenda.  The system is flawed probably beyond repair......at least it will be for the rest of my lifetime.  Perhaps in the future, cops will be recorded 24/7 and will have to answer for their illegal actions.  So, I would personally vote for no cops.

1. I tend to side with the police on most of these issues. BUT, to me, it looked like he was beat senseless BEFORE he was put in that van ( * video of him being put in the van). The claim that he broke his own back/neck while shackled in the back is not credible. The guy killed was a drug dealer and petty criminal. His lifestyle and personal choices put him a bad situation with the cops in the first place. BUT, I don't think he deserved to get f'd up and killed over it.

2. The rioters and looters don't really care about justice. Most don't want to obey the law and live in a civil society.

Many dysfunctional people want to live in a "nice , safe, neighborhood." The problem is that if they move in the nice neighborhood, they have to start acting like the decent folks . If not, their own wacky behavior brings it down for everyone.

Fair enough, but gotta cringe at just how insane that'd be.
