Recovery on that is a bitch. Every year we have athletes (mostly football) that come in for post-rehab therapy. Their injuries are usually caused from trauma such as a dropping a shoulder on a  tackle or hitting the ground.

mine was MVA, and I thought I was 100% till Monday

do any of them rehab and elect not to be cut? if yes how are results..

Jesus. Sorry man.

Next time, forget the barbell bench work. It's death on shoulders.

Depends on the grade of the tear.

I posted a video of me doing flat DB presses and Natural Wonder kept asking to "correct my internal rotation". I didn't answer because he didn't know any better and I was in no mood to explain but I am now. I don't and nor do I teach to keep elbows wide. I AlWAYS teach to press (if using DB's) to turn them in about 1/4 to change the path of the elbows to take the force off the labrum. Same with regular bench. It millimeters to save your shoulders. I know people that have been training for 10-15 years that still don't know proper mechanics when benching either with a straight bar or Dumbbells.

this is why I stopped benching with the straight bar

I've torn my hip labrums in a couple of places, had the frayed tissue cut off instead of stitched back. IMO the stitching is never going to fully heal as there's virtually no bloodflow to that area (which is why it doesn't heal by itself) and it can always retear.

good luck on rehab and don't bench the bar anymore

Shoulder labrum tears are a bitch. I tore both of mine, maybe 7-8 years ago within a year of one another. Opted for rehab as opposed to surgery. I'm able to workout real hard now, but in a very different manner than before. The strength of my shoulder isn't what it once was, nor is my bench. You can work around it in most cases but it will require you to alter your training as well as throw in a bit of upper back mobility work before a chest or back workout. Quickest way to recover is to work out your back and do a lot of pulling movements to strengthen rear upper posterior.  However like others have noted, it depends on the level of tear.

Just my experience.

I dislocated my shoulder 5 times. I actually started working out because of this. Shoulder has been healthy for 6-7 years after I started working out, then it dislocated again during boxing.
Finally got a bankart repair in the beginning of this year, labrum was torn on the front being the cause of all the trouble, fell on it when I was 16 years old.

I believe strength training helped stabilize my shoulder tremendously, and I can recommend to you incorporating stuff like exo/endo rotation with resistance.

I think it always will be a weak point though and you will have to keep it in mind.

Btw... You cannot already know for sure you have re-torn it. So try to keep a positive attitude and maybe it's something else.

I just caught you thread title at a glance and I thought you said you re-tore your rectum.  lol.

I had to do a double take.  That sucks about your shoulder though.

I had the surgery. Recovery took a year and a half. I know a guy who rehabbed without and was young enough for it to work. Will always be more susceptible to fuck it up again though.

Did you get the open procedure or the keyhole one? How long since your surgery and how have you been since?

What kind of sports do you do except for lifting?
