I think a major problem with finding a job nowadays is the major bullshit they put you through to actually land the job......back in th old day you would see an ad, call up (an actual person would answer), schedule an interview, got to said interview and wait to be called in.....
NOWADAYS.........I changed jobs six months ago....I had to send out my resume on the internet to 25 different jobs (who knows where they are going or if they are even going to be read)...then got a call saying they were interested in my resume and asked me to fill out lengthy job application on line which I did.....they called me in for an interview...then went to a second interview...then a third interview.....had to fill out some paperwork.....then went for a drug test...then fingerprinted for a criminal background check........then a physical where I had to take a Hepatitis vaccine shot and a tetanis shot as a requirement for the job.......and I had to do all of this while still working at the previous job....at this point I STILL DID NOT KNOW IF I TRULY HAD THE JOB OR NOT.........finally I was told I had the job and then had to proceed to fill out EVEN MORE paperwork......
they make it so damn hard to work today..and this is one of the reasons why people give up
back in teh old days you would know within a week or two if you were hired...it took them a MONTH AND A HALF to let me know I was hired.....
What you describe is onerous and time consuming, but it is not hard or difficult. And you have your fellow employees to blame—not the employer. Companies have had to go this route because many times in the past they hired someone without, say, a criminal background check, credit check, physical and vaccines, etc. only to have it blow up later when the employee turns out to be a criminal with bad credit and communicable diseases. Hiring the wrong person can cost a company thousands to millions of dollars if things go sour and the employee opens the company up to liability. Yes, it is annoying to have to jump through hoops, but who do you think is to blame for this? You really think companies like having to check off all these boxes because they have nothing better to do?
Are you suggesting that if you ran a big company you would just hire off the street with no screening like the hoops you just described? If you did that, you would not be in business for very long. Would you be happy working next to someone knowing that they did not go through any kind of screening in order to work along side you? A few bad apples have spoiled the employment job cart for every one. Get used to it.
Most applications today have a question along the lines of “Have you ever been convicted of a criminal office (except a minor traffic violation)? If so explain in full…” If you have to answer “yes” to that question in most places you are toast. And rightfully so.
Bah!
