Guys like Yates, Ronnie, Dex and Jay seemed like genuine bodybuilders to me.
Phil seems more like the "fitness industry" people I don't admire and can't relate to.
Branch and Jose Raymond are well known examples of the handful of pros left I admire.

The growing number of "social media fitness legends" is a complete turn off for me.
Any others feel like this?

I hate all the social media and how its fucked bbing! Yes we get instant contest results but it seems everyone is a fucking expert that has an IG acct. And don't get me started on all the stupid comments I see on IG..."follow me, 16 yr old bber"...."please come train with me."...."Heath, can you sponsor me?"  WTF?? Or even better , how everyone is in BEASTMODE when they are really built like a 17 yr old girl.

HOWEVER, there are some good IG accts...Lisa Ann, Plumper Pass, Calle Bundy, Denise Masino and Janet Layung

Glamorization of the male physique (i.e., BB'ing) has run it's course.  It along w/ just about everything else has been run into the ground & the public is no longer fascinated by a freakish body.  Idiots like Valentino, Piana, the Situation, etc., only serve to reinforce the public's misconception that if you have an impressive physique your an idiot & the physique can only be obtained through unnatural means (drugs, implants, crazy exercise routines, gurus, etc.)

Until the IFBB (which is a joke into itself) puts  social responsibility ahead of financial gains ^ this will never change.  We as amatuer bodybuilders can help immensely by not wearing revealing clothing, acting like thugs/bullies, attempting to constantly maintain a pre-contest appearance.

HOWARD, I respectfully suggest a change of attitude and a 'Go with the flow'.

At this present time are are all experiencing the biggest change within the competitive bodybuilding world since its inception ... a world-wide growth beyond anyone's expectations.

And that growth means "big change".

And big changes always mean disappointments, resentments, and disagreements, yada, yada, yada.

This big change suddenly came about after the passing of Joe Weider who apparently wanted to maintain the number of IFBB pros at a relatively low membership level. Just enough pros to fill the lineup at IFBB events.

But those in power after Joe's demise decided that it was time for a change.

The change that we are seeing today!

And I personally think that it's great for all concerned except for the fans who liked it as it was.

Open to arguments for the sake of discussion.

Thanks, Howard ..... Stunt

By all means, I love reading about such stuff! It just floors me how they think they think they're so special. They all wear size medium t shirts, lol, no denying twinkdomism is taking over.

....waits for someone's inevitable response on why the 90s were better.....

Then someone will start a thread discussing what women want and how to get them, followed by a thread on how great it is to be single......

Who do you think was better a prime yates or Ronny?

Hmmmm...never thought of this.....

First thoughts.

On one hand, the pics of Ronnie are mind blowing, but the fact is in 99, prime Yates would outmass him, and in the larger versions of Ronnie, Yates would make him look soft.

But Ronnie destroys him on the front double bicep, but then again, contests aren't judged on one pose.

And the Horton pics, Yates looks unbelieveable.  On the other hand, that condition was not  brought to the stage.

Hmmmm.....lots of thoughts - you should start a thread about it.

Just turn on the Bodybuilding News Network on cable. All bodybuilding, all the time!

Friday Schedule:

6 PM: Pump Center - a 60-minute recap of all of the highlights from the past 24 hours including:
*Competitors boarding their flight for the Arnold Brazil
*A POV look inside one of the Pro Tan pop-up tents
*What color posing trunks will he wear?

7 PM: Outside the Gym - See how your favorite pro bodybuilder grills his chicken, steams his brown rice and pours his water. Special feature - The Gift's custom made suit alterations performed for our cameras!

8 PM: Body Shaping - a reboot of the old ESPN favorite from the late 1980s/early 90s, but instead of drooling over a scantily clad Cory Everson, the viewers will find out in round table discussions just how and why the modern day competitors have extended guts. Some of the highlighted quotes:
"It's the mass amounts of food these guys eat today."
"It's not the drugs."
"Don't blame the judges; blame the fans - that's what they want to see up there."

Yes, this was purely satirical with the exception of the aforementioned three quotes, which are accurate as is being reported by the former "World's Biggest Bodybuilding Magazine," your favorite and mine - MD!

You are correct Stunt, if I want to stay in the BB world I need to embrace things "as is".
Even the posts that ridicule me, remind me of how out of touch my interests are within the fitness industry.

I last competed 20 yrs ago, quit judging 3 yrs ago and last attended a pro or national show in 2008.
It's time for my heart to move on and detach for my own peace of mind .

GET BIG is still fun and I've always enjoyed posting here and will continue to do so..
I'm enjoying the new challenge running/cardio based focus provides.

Thanks, Howard. Hey - what's your opinion on the MD Mount Rushmore spinnin' their yarn about the big gut excuses that include everything but the truth? I'm sure that you saw how they were touting this as a controversial issue & then tease it with Ron Harris's "blame the fans" line from the article. That tells me exactly what direction this article is written in and it seems to be in no way controversial, but rather another latch onto the nipple.

Shawn Ray was one of the few who said it was more about insulin and HGH abuse then just eating too much.
I need to write a post about it over on your site soon. Look for it.

LOL, that was the way it was when I started.

The deal is, back in my hey day, I loved the contest scene but was too poor to attend many major events.
Now, I have enough $$ to go and lost some interest.

Fuk it, I'm going to work LEGS is a bit and keep my bodybuilding world small (* like Shizzo's cock)

Please do; I'm looking forward to reading it.

My hat's off to Shawn Ray for having the balls to stand up to Bob Cicherillo and call out his MD brethren. I wonder if he was part of this 'circus without a tent' roundtable discussion in the new issue and, if so, were his contributions filtered by Blechy and his magic red pen? (I hated that fuckin' pen!)

This new twist - blaming the fans - is like if the MLB Network (because MD is like a puppet government) blamed the fans' love of the long ball for the baseball players using steroids to hit with more power.
