My thoughts on Taekwondo

Like BJJ, Taekwondo is another "sport" martial art that will get you killed on the street. I was challenged by a TKD Grandmaster to spar with one of his top Black Belts. I stopped by their dojang to observe this guy. He had all the fancy kicks in the world, but I knew in my heart I would snap his left leg in half and rupture his spleen. When the Grandmaster telephoned me to set the sparring date, I merely told him "I already won." Taekwondo sucks.

I studied taekwondo in Korea for two years when I was in the US Air Force. It provides an outstanding cardiovascular workout, and it teaches toughness. It's no joke.

Intuitively, however, I always believed it should stay in the classroom and should never, ever be attempted in the streets. It's more of a sport than a real-world self-defense regimen.

You would learn more practical stuff in a women's week end self defense course than taking up TKD.

They serve more as modern day babysitters most martial art classes.

Edit: actually just watching self defense vids on youtube would help you more than TKD.

Or even just thinking of watching the vids would help you better.
