As a teacher for nearly 30 years in various school districts and serving on various boards, with most of her close friends being teachers, I doubt she is out of the loop.

And yes, it is clearly still happening -- but a lot? Depends how you look at it. For example, it's been estimated that 2% of girls have sex by the time they are 13 years old. Now 2% doesn't seem like a lot. But 2% out of a million and you are already at 20,000 girls. Now that's a lot.
