Hey guys,
I am not really a baseball fan, but I thought maybe you guys can help me with this...
Is it possible that, at the time, most of the major teams were essentially feeding Ruth easy pitches in order to inflate his home run record?
For instance, remember when Sammy Sosa and Mark Mcgwire were going at it for most home runs during the season and you started to notice pitchers throw slow pitches right down the middle, just because they knew it was the reason people were coming to the game (with the goal of having one of them break the all-time record)?
Could it be that during the time of Ruth, they were simply feeding the man, because they knew that most of the audience in attendance were there to see the guy hit home runs and that if they didn't feed him, the ticket sales would plummet?
Again, never been a baseball fan and I know very little about these things, so if I am way off, feel free to tell me so.
