Ok then, how about this. Our progressive tax system is a failure. The IRS is much to big and bureaucratic. Eliminate the IRS which would save billions. Why not a consumption tax and for the groveling libs I am ok with keeping SS benefits. Thus, you only pay your payroll taxes (SS and Medicare). Everything else you keep.
If you are poor, you will not buy the latest iPAD or iPhone or Samsung flat screen. For normal goods like groceries there is no tax...prepared or not. For gas and the service industry, you pay 15-20 percent. Same rate percent for clothes and such. For big ticket items over 5000 dollars or so, you pay 30% taxes. For cheap electronics, make then pay no tax.
There are no deductions of any kind. No charitable contributions for tax benefits. If you gift or tithe, you do it out of the generousness of your heart. If you are wealthy and want to buy a 200000 dollar car, you pay 260000. If you buy that 10000 dollar flat screen, you pay 13000.
The rich would probably pay a higher percentage of their income in taxes this way. However, you don't have to hire an accountant and pay them gobs of money for their time. The tax is built in. You are done. There is no rate increase. It is the same rate January 1st vs December 31st.
This will never happen as the IRS machine is a Democratic propaganda machine. Also, I am sure that accountants and their lobbyists will have catatonic shock at the idea. However, sometimes simpler really is better.
