i don't think asking people to give up guns is risking their lives. i'm sure i have seen that statistically gun owners are generally more at risk than non gun owners anyways. but that aside, i'm certain your society as a whole would be a lot better off if you had similar gun laws to western europe.

in some of your states i'm sure gambling and drinking are still prohibited, all societies have laws and prohibitions. i don't see prohibiting something for the general good of society an an attack on freedom tbh.

You don't think asking people to give up their guns is risking their lives , emphasis on you don't think. Guns are used defensively up to 2 Millions times a year to protect people. You take away their guns you make new victims.

unless it hits something functional for standing, a lot of people soak up bullets in gut, back, lungs and sometimes even heart, and manage to get a few steps in.  the bleeding gets them quickly, hydraulic shutdown, but I doubt she knew she was shot all those times, probably felt a sting and was scared of the noise more than the pain.
