After you buy your fifth cell phone, you could have bought 15 decent watches though.

For what it was designed to do, a watch is a marvel.
so why don't we all collect sundials as well? All u watch snobs-chime in!!! How come u don't collect sundials as well??

Ha, good stuff :D

"Which is to say, the mere act of wearing a watch is not an immediate giveaway of assholedom. This means that the rich pompous asshole, with his big fucking watch with the face as big as a dessert plate, can sidle on up next to you without raising your automatic "rich asshole" defense system."

Watch snobs? Come on man. Aren't you stretching that a little?

You wear a belt? Ever? You probably don't need it to keep your pants up, but you probably wear one from time to time.

Is your car a cheap yugo? Of course not.

Some things can be accessories and have a practical purpose. Much easier to look down at a watch than to pull your phone out. If I'm in a meeting and I look at my watch, no big deal. If I pull out my phone, it's rude.

I can't believe someone is hating on watches. Watches!

If you don't like them, it's fine, but to act like they are pointless. Sheesh.

Almost everyone has a mobile these days, so yeah, that makes the functionality of a watch pretty pointless. BTW, the same goes for cameras, calculators, stopwatches, flashlights, memo recorders, etc

The point is lost on those that don't like watches.

Like you say does he drive the cheapest basic car -
it does go backwards & forwards gets you from point A to B.

A nice watch is part of your presentation, and it can be the finishing touch in terms of leaving a good and lasting impression. It goes without saying that a flashy Rolex won't turn you into a high-roller, nor does it make you look good. But if that's the way you approach watches, you've missed the point any ways. Nothing beats a fine watch, certainly not those digital 'connect-to-your-phone-so-you-don't-miss-all-your-asshole-friends-and-other-unrelated-crap' trash like the AppleWatch or similar products.

Black G-Shock has lasted me years and been through everything without a hitch.  Mud, water, salt water, scratches, abrasions w the concrete floor, etc.  Was like $75.00

Some wear watches for appearance and others appreciate the fine mechanics. You can get beautiful looking watches for $500 if you know where to go.  Then there's the status watch by going for the big name brand then there's watches known for prime mechanics that attract me.  It's all a personal choice.

The thing I hate the most are the big fucking watches that are bejewled.  Look dumb.
