In her first major address before the nation on Monday night, Melania Trump appears to have plagiarized a number of lines from first lady Michelle Obama’s speech at the 2008 Democratic National Convention. The plagiarized passages, in bold below, concerned the importance of hard work and honesty.

“From a young age, my parents impressed on me the values that you work hard for what you want in life; that your word is your bond and you do what you say and keep your promise; that you treat people with respect,” Trump told the thousands of Republican delegates and assembled media on Monday night in Cleveland.

In 2008, Mrs. Obama said, “You work hard for what you want in life; that your word is your bond and you do what you say you’re going to do; that you treat people with dignity and respect, even if you don’t know them, and even if you don’t agree with them.”

Trump’s spouse also lifted a line about children from Michelle Obama, saying, “We want our children in this nation to know that the only limit to your achievements is the strength of your dreams and your willingness to work for them.”

In 2008, Michelle Obama said, “We want our children — and all children in this nation — to know that the only limit to the height of your achievements is the reach of your dreams and your willingness to work for them.”

Here is Trump, on Monday:

Lies & inconsistency. Lack of oversight. Lack of someone sitting back and saying "does anything smell funny in this room". I recognized a line of it instantly - only because I'm a political nerd with a 90% photographic memory on minor details. Some actual donors/organizers knew that shit word for word from 2008.

I'm just saying, if this is Paul Ryan's wife, we all KNOW this mistake doesn't hapen. Trump probably didn't even watch the 2008 convention for either party. Mentally disinterested in anything deep or boring.

I only heard parts but Rudys could be the highlight of the week.

Trump camp in chaos. Pretending it was all melanias fault with the speech. She did volunteer that she wrote it herself and only rehearsed it once. She may actually be telling the truth here lol. Probably pulled up Michelle's 2008 speech, started to write her own, and used the pasted paragraph as her own. Just changed 6 words to easier words using right click synonym.

She doesn't seem to be high caliber intelligence, just like Donald. By he fact her team would let her go on national television without reviewing the speech is inexcusable. Amateur hour.

They should just blame it on the staffer being lazy and they liked the speech when they read it and didnt know that part was lifted.

Anybody here written high level speeches. I have...I don't like it as I think top people should write their own stuff....but that's not usually the case. In any event you get a theme and in this case they....trumps people liked Chewy's 08 speech. It was a good speech...spoke to American values as seen by normal....non-full of shit people like her. In any case they built Melania's speech like that and I think they either fucked up and left in a whole pasted in paragraph that they planned to re word or they said fuck it and changed a few things without the total re write. Beck talked about it today. This is lazy or careless...and somebody needs to get fired. I hate building speeches for this reason. You get the theme...you go back and forth on each paragraph and re write the dam thing a million times. Ive had guys who take my 80% solution and are good to go and others that won't touch it until its 100% and then read the dam thing word for word like a robot. Others ad lib and fuck it all up....you can't win.
