D.O.M.S
« on: September 09, 2015, 06:58:58 AM »
I notice I can regularly achieve delayed onset muscle soreness in my legs, but rarely in other bodyparts.  The other week I experimented with doing more volume for my back, essentially training back twice in the one day, doing almost double the amount of sets I usually do.  My lats were sore for days. I am beginning to think volume training would probably be worth experimenting with, I know Jay Cutler always did tons of volume training and it seemed to work for him. I can never seem to get sore triceps the following day, not sure if it is my training or other bodyparts taking over during exercises, no matter what I do I can't get my triceps to become sore the next day, I was thinking of trying volume with them also.  Is d.o.m.s even necessary?  Does anyone at getbig train using lots of volume?

Train triceps with lots of volume.... and do so twice per week.

As stated about; try time under tension

I take it you feel your triceps are a weak body part? However if you are pressing a resonable weight in chest and shoulder exercises this maybe is not the case, I think your problem is more exercise selection.

People often put down bodyweight exercises too...try Tiger Dips. this is very hard at first but is pure triceps. Even changing your arc of movement is effective such as skull crushers ..do them as the name suggests and another time bring the bar behind your head. Also incline the bench..i like these better really stretches the triceps. Hand position on push downs..reverse the grip....etc

Yeah, I think my triceps are a weak body part, having long arms doesn't help. I am happy with my shoulders and chest, just can't seem to bring my triceps up as much as I would like.  I usually do the usual exercises triceps pushdowns, overhead cable and//or dumbbell extensions, dip machine etc.. .  I used to do dips, but I don't like the dip bars at my gym, they are those v-type bars and they seem to be too far spread apart, they put a huge strain on my shoulders and I don't feel them hit my triceps at all, just mainly my chest.  Triceps pushdowns seem to work the best for me, I can get a decent pump and move some decent weight, just never get any soreness the next day.  I will try volume training next time I work them out, just do lots of sets and see how I go.

Never heard of tiger dips, and yeah, I think I need to add in some skull crushers, I used to do these regularly but dropped them for whatever reason.  I think I just need to change up the usual exercises I regularly do.

yeah..you know your own body... pre-exhaust is hard if you do it correctly too, but you won´t do too many sets of these. Bill Pearl did loads of volume and had great Triceps. Maybe look at his training..but never to complete failure. Contradicts pre-exhaust i know. I spoke to both Bob Kennedy and Bill Pearl. I am sort of in the middle !!

I don't think I have ever had them in my shoulders, and mostly get them in my legs as well as chest.  Legs are always the worst for them though.

How often are you training your tri's?

The more often you train a bodypart, the less sore it will be

As said in other posts, tut, reverse grip pushdowns

Dumbell pullovers wreak havoc on my tri's

I'm all for volume, stimulating, pumping blood and stretching the muscle, in my opinion it is the best type of training for bodybuilding... Triceps are not easy to get sore, try going to failure on every set, keeping peak contraction for a second or two every rep, on an excercise that isolate triceps the most...
