Canned Salmon...?
« on: September 11, 2015, 06:50:34 PM »
Anybody do anything good with canned tuna or salmon? (I don't like tuna. Would just switch out tuna for salmon.)

Would like to add more canned fish to diet, but not at the expense of taste. Have yet to find a decent canned fish recipe that isn't a mayo salad or a tuna cake.

That comment wasn't worthy of taking offense to.

These sound a little weird, but they're actually pretty good for a quick lunch.  I prefer the pouches over the canned.

Mash the canned salmon with a cooked sweet potato (nuke for ~5 min.), a little mustard (I like a combo of a couple different types), some sweet pickle relish and a little olive oil.  Heated warm or even room temp.

Chopped up fresh (they're in season) tomatoes, canned salmon, a little ranch dressing, a little olive oil.

Canned salmon in a bowl of roasted red pepper tomato soup (box) from Trader Joe's topped with a little feta is pretty good too.

That's why I advised not to waste the energy. The comment was directed at me and I forgot it immediately after reading.

I actually do the middle one ( sort of). Tomatoes, blue cheese, sesame oil.

The sweet potato one sounds like a little too much for me, though.

I'll give the last one a shot.

Frying it in bacon grease and adding onions makes tuna edible.

No confusion, but I find it extremely disingenuous to imply that offering another option won't make proliferators gauge it relative to existing ones.

Nobody looks at the absolute return rate of an option and judges it on its own. It's always relative to other options.

I love both. Canned salmon recipes are all over the net. Google can help.

My fav involves either adding canned tuba or salmon to a rice and veggie stir fry

Al, trust me on this (but if you don't like lime please skip):

Firstly make sure you buy tinned tuna 'steak' not 'chunks', and try and get it in spring water not brine or oil. Just chop some onion as small as you can get it (maybe less than a quarter of a small onion) and then chop up 2 tomatoes into say 1cm cubes.

Drain the tuna and get it as dry as you can, then simply stir in the raw onion and tomato and a good drizzle of olive oil, some salt and black pepper. Just before eating it (usually on it's own or in a wholewheat pitta) cut a lime in half and squeeze on as much lime juice as you prefer (I use the whole thing).

Takes me about 3-4 mins and it's delicious.

That's shit. No real Greek eat's Tuna. It's a pussy move.
Replace Tuna with nice lamb or chicken shwarma or shish kebab and you are on to a winner.
Don't want no lip from you about it.
Allow it.
