The Future of the Bodybuilding Industry
« on: September 21, 2015, 09:20:50 PM »
There has been a lot of talk on the various boards about the future of the IFBB and NPC etc. Many believe these are both strong organizations that will crush potential threats. Although this may be true, the reality is that bodybuilding is not a sport but entertainment and the real money will be found in CrossFit etc. The few at the top of the sport are rolling in the money and the athletes are getting shafted. However, the competitors have to realize that they can make the difference. Social media has the power. When you look at Rich Piana, Kai and others their social media followers are higher than all the bodybuilding magazines circulation combined. Get to the sponsors and they need to know enough is enough. If the industry reveals the  truths about the sport and all the stories tucked deep inside, what will the sponsors do? Social media pressure is strong. I thought I would never see the day when Kai Green not signing a contract is a trending story on Yahoo News. Enough is enough!

The bodybuilders will get it only once they realize a) they were never going to make money but moreover, b) that the "prestigious" IFBB pro card is no longer rare or highly esteemed as it once was, and that there are other ways (social media) to make yourself known.

The IFBB is as outdated as FLEX magazine. Raising the top 3 prize money to something respectable is akin to lowering the price of FLEX magazine by a couple bucks. Big damn deal.

The guys making the most money are the ones goofing around youtube and instagram. Unless your are a top competitor at the mister O theres no money to be made in contests and magazines. Its all about idiotic videos, youtubing, relationship advices whatever the fuck...
The more retarded you behave the more fans you get anyway.. look at ct fletcher, kali muscle or hodgetwins those guys are more famous than someone like william bonac by a LARGE margin.

Yup, and they don't have to take copious amounts of drugs to achieve their success. (well, kali muscle might)

The key question is that the supplement companies provide the revenues to the Bodybuilding industry. However, their revenues are basically attributed to the mainstream consumer. What supplement companies are the key sponsors? The model has changed since print publications are weakening in viewership and social media has greater exposure.

I know nothing about the social media business nor the income of anyone involved within it.

Would it be possible for someone to 'enlighten' me? How is any social media money made and who is making it?

And why would it not be possible to be financially successful with both ... social media and bodybuilding competitions?

Thanks for any help.
