After Sandy Hook happened, every other school shooting just seems like another day in America.
Sad how desensitized I feel to these stories as they happen. I always think "Oh, another school shooting. Sucks..."

mass shooters arent looking for a fight. They are looking to make a statement. Government buildings have armed security, most schools are gun free zones.

besides we have had government targeted recently the giffords shooting, the active shooter in d.c. 3 yrs ago the shooting at the military base etc.

Doesn't interfere with my disgust or sympathy - and I'd, of course, prefer it never happened - but I can't deny the curiosity. This is bad still, right?

For the same reason why people slow down at the scene of a car accident, in hopes of getting a glimpse at a dead body or an injured person.

I am sure this thought process can be explained by an evolutionary process.  Maybe looking at destruction and chaos helps us value the safety of our own lives and the people we care about, i.e., it reminds us to always stay on guard.  Thousands of years ago our ancestors were continuously reminded of the dangerous environments they encountered.

I am just speaking out my ass.
