Following conspiracy has traditionally been a conservative thing, and I'd bet there are more self-proclaimed conservatives who are believers in conspiracy theories.

I really don't think either side has the lead in this race toward weirdness.  It does, however, sometimes look that way!

The idea that someone else was hanged isn't necessarily far-fetched.  To think that Saddam wouldn't have had a fast exit planned from his first day of power, isn't believable.  Whether or not he took too many risks (or whatever) to do that is another story.

But it wouldn't surprise me if he'd already left by the time we penetrated the border.  Not at all.  If he had any brains, that's exactly what he would have done.

I thought this as well, or it could precieved to be an act of Jihad or a number of different reasons.  The truth of the matter is we will never know with 100% certainty when the government is telling the truth.

I can handle the idea that people think Sadam or Hitler lived/escaped/went into exile.

However the ego it would require to rise to power, take control of a country, establish yourself as the sole leader, go on a war path instigating battle with neighboring nations and take command of them, turning on your allies and when the whole plan begins to unravel this individual would decide it would be in their best interest to retreat to some quiet, uneventful, relatively powerless, solitary life out of the public eye seems highly unlikely.

Personality changes can and do happen, it just seems far fetched that with these narcissistic type of individuals  the change would be so drastic.

If Saddam is exactly as he's been introduced and shown to us through media, then I'd say you're right.

But at the same time, IF everything is as represented, then Saddam wouldn't be doing himself any favors by attempting to do as you say.  Whatever fleeting moments of narcissism he could get in, surely couldn't seem worth the consequences.
