Author Topic: Bodybuilding judges shouldn't be allowed to prep/coach competitors they judge  (Read 2113 times)

That is my opinion...

Its a corrupt practice to take money from competitors especially "preparing" them for the show they will be judging.

Judges should be prepared to accept a high level of separation from the bodybuilders.
If they can't then written warnings and dismissals should take place.

anybody dumb enough to pay someone to help them to diet or lift weights deserves to have their money taken off them.

  • Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.
I think the judges should be free to marry the competitors

It's a shame an ambitious young stud can court a judge and do all the "choirs" of a monogamous relationship but risk losing their placing to the next man

Or one of the sponsors have a large team in the show. It's terrible

Bodybuilding is the only "sport" where the officials are not just hired by the league, federation, etc. to do just that. Do football referees run strength and conditioning clinics during the offseason? How about boxing? Mills Lane putting out DVDs on how to do the perfect combination?

Of course not. Only in bodybuilding will you find coaches, agents and 'Team' coordinators sitting at the judge's table and in the photo pit front and center.

It is a complete conflict of interest and happens all of the time.

That was one thing that really stuck out for me with Lee Thompson's new organization. He is hiring judges to be judges and they won't be wearing 15 other hats that put their integrity in question.

I got beat in Syracuse NY by a fat Puerto Rican guy that looked like a glazed donut........lots of baby oil.

1 week after I placed 2nd. in the Mr. Rochester and he failed to place at all................nice kid though.

He trained at IFBB pro`s Jeremy Freemans gym,and Jeremy ran the Syracuse contest...............ne ver competed there again (it was my second time.......first time I got a fair shake).........I looked like a Greek god on the contest DVD compared to this kid...........rip off of peace!

I`m never one to cry sour grapes, but this was a joke.  :(

I once competed against a guy and when we walked out on stage I looked down at the judges and his brother was sitting there.

Amen and there are no rules either. People just make stuff up as they go along. They should have total judging transparency and have to report after every round which is another thing I liked about Lee's thing. Now it looks like they just make up the scores to fit the placings

As I keep saying how come nobody is coming out to say that Lee is lying about what he said in that video. All they keep doing is launching personal attacks which probably have some validity but they don't want to go there either because a lot of these folks have skeletons in the closet.

Happened at my show in the Master's class. They announced all of the competitors the same except one individual. They talked about how he was a doctor, sponsor, and father of 5. The MC was smiling and laughing. He clearly wasn't in the best shape either.

Bet you can't guess who took the win and the pro card...

  • I am a good man.
I think they should get judges from the art world or some world that's completely unrelated to ours.  You don't have to know how to lift or diet to judge a physique.  Its a big conflict and has been since probably the beginning.  Hell its even a conflict for Weider to put a show on and then also sponsor the athletes in it.  In some of our entry forms it asks who our trainer is.  Why would this ever be important?  Lee brought some things to people's attention which was good but these are the same things he's been promoting for the last decade and he also tried to say something bad about everyone he could think of which doesn't solve anything.  I don't care if someone's wife did porn.  I want to win a trophy with a plastic man on it fairly.
Come get me.

That's one of the main questions that I have been asking, as well. And perhaps even more glaring than that is the silence from the powers that be. It isn't even them coming out with the smear campaign stuff, but rather the foot soldiers. So collectively, it looks very bizarre right now.

How funny is it that Lee Thompson is still promoting NPC shows (one this past weekend) that were planned throughout the calendar year? That is a fact and when I interviewed him, he said that everything was signed, sealed and delivered and he was going to run those shows as if he was still with the NPC/IFBB.

Exactly this.

This combined with the ifbb pledges from the competitors let me know something is amiss. They have all gone for the personal life. Nobody has refuted his allegations about Lindsay shows, Hany Rambod, the judging, etc

My question was that if people participated in Lee's shows like last weekend, would that still count in the NPC towards a national qualification. This makes no sense. Would they pretend it didn't happen. That's not fair to competitors who dieted and paid their money to hold that against them.

Why didn't Lee just fix up the NPC/IFBB?

It's sounds like Jim Manion & Steve Weinberger were above him ...and he would've had to deal with those 2 (who probably didn't want any shit stirred up).
