big difference between posing and discreetly flexing the bodypart you are training.  if you are wearing loose clothing and contract your pecs as hard as possible during a chest workout no one has to know.

True, but this is Getbig. The expectation is that you peel and do multiple most musculars while growling "yeeeaaahhhh!!!"

I think it helps definitely. You isolate the muscle in your mind and develop that mind-muscle connection so you can apply as much direct stimulus as possible.

Did it after back yesterday. ... had never really thought about flexing my back until yesterday and I sucked... but it became easier towards the end... then I was dead.

LOL some of the comments.... if you never stepped on stage you'll never know the value of posing. just hit a front double biceps and see how you look there, then repeat 10 times and see how much wingspan you display. hint: it has to do with activation of and creating length/tone ratio of antagonizing muscles. think of it as yoga for bodybuilders.

Being able to pose and find the right posture for optimal illusion is like 90% more imporant than the acual musclemass! Frank Zane knew that and most bodybuilders did in the 70-80ies.

DO your posing and u will find new poses all the time that fit your body! Pretty funny!

bingo..    most people now have no clue how to pose, pro bodybuilders included.  a national competitor asked me to watch him pose two weeks out from the Canadians, my first comment was 'you gotta hold your gut in!'   he said,' don't worry, i'll hold it in on stage when I need to'. well, his gut was hanging out on stage too. if it's hard two weeks out in the gym, it's ten times as hard on stage.

I saw guys with huge lats I was competing against, and afterwards the pics show my lat spread is way better.   they have more actual muscle, but on stage I look like I have more muscle. that is all attributed to knowing how to pose.

I guess I always understood that part without also considering the value of flexing on muscular development, shape and vascularity (queue whitewidow challenging everyone to a forearm vein contest)

You cannot teach posing, never ever saw a bb learn how to pose. The way you hit your poses is "set" very early on in your "bb career". Said it many times before, no one agrees :D

I don`t know about growth...possibly,but I think it may help definition and definitely muscle control.

it becomes autonomic. it can change, but it's as difficult as any subconscious behavior it takes a ton of work.

I had guys who did the 'boxers double bi'.  that's the best way I can describe it.  shoulders high, elbows low, destroying taper and peaks.  after weeks of work, had them doing it perfect, elbows high, shoulders low, lats wide.  but the second they get on stage they revert to the old 'wrong' form.

when I was 15 my dad took pics of me doing all the Arnold poses.  when the film came back a month later (older guys - remember that? younger guys - seriously, that's how pictures worked!!!),  the poses were horribly wrong, angles off, twisting wrong. so I spent the next 2 mths tweaking the poses and  getting them right.
bad habits are much harder to break than they are to prevent. ( believe me, I've developed a few in the last ten years).

You can tweak a little, but your pretty much set due to your body type/ how your brain works

I taught lots of people how to pose......they were not Ed Corney once they learned, but they were pathetic and laughable at first.

It`s all about hand and foot placement and smooth transitions.

Like hazbin said,in a large class if you make the callouts it`s a fucking brutal workout in itself.

Which makes them look bigger. .. my first attempts at a lat spread were funnier than an avesher circuit training video.

I will scan some pics from my teens, doing the poses wrong, and then a couple months later doing them better.

Posing is more important, 90% more important, than having actual muscle? Really?

You can be the best poser in the world but if you have no muscle you will just look silly. If you have enough muscle mass you can still win shows without being a masterful poser.

You have to have something to pose -- to pose.

posing is hard. Much harder than it looks. I was exhausted after just trying to take pics of myself doing some basic shots. Could even feel it the next day. Posing is squeezing the muscle hard and of course that is a training of sorts. Hard to do without a mirror also. Gotta respect those guys who can pull it off and make tensing every muscle in your body look easy.

i'm not sure he is right on his percentages, but mohammed makkawy for example was called the magician because he could hide his weak points and make everything appear larger.  he was 160ish and beat 230lbrs.

it was also the whole basis of Charles Atlas' program of dynamic tension.

One word...Isometrics...

and when bob hoffman got all his weightlifters on steroids in (year left out to stop another getbig war) he proclaimed that they were all gaining 150 lbs. on their lift in 6 months due to isometrics.
