what happened to spoto?

i remember seeing him put up 705 or maybe 715 like it was nothing... thought he would be breaking his own records for years to come

spoto was the record holder with 722. No idea what he's doing now.

Spoto's rotor cuff went bad on him, had surgury a bit ago, and had/has to do a ton of rehab. He's just now starting to come back.

Still, a one lift wonder like Spoto will always be behind a well-rounded lifter such as Sarichev. In respect at least, now also in numbers.

I don't see Spoto beating his previous record with all the issues he's had since.
He's also quite a bit older than this Russian giant.

Sarychev is 27, and has room to grow, I can see him at #400lbs+ too. He's not looking unhealthy at these extreme weights. I wouldn't be surprised if he pushes the record into the #760's before he's done. I can't see anyone coming close right now.

Look at how fast he moves #726/330 - http://instagram.com/p/-Y0uJysbEw/ .

A) I, too, don't hold much hope for Spoto to reclaim the record. Respect to him, but his injury has likely put a kibosh on any future 700-plus attempts.

B) This cat, who can also pull like a mutha, apparently, is the new king of FREAK.

Spoto's shoulder is recovering and he's back to repping 600lbs again.

Prior to injury he was shooting for a 750lb raw bench, but that was 2 years ago.

Hope he can get back to worldclass form, but it'll be a stretch at his age.

The Russians OWN Powerlifting right now. It's as simple as that.

weird isnt it, as the hebrews are world class athletes in nearly every sport, bar power lifting/strong man

It might be something to do with structure or bone/tendon/ligament strength.

Well, that's good news. Undoubtedly the man is one of benching's all-time greatest (to put it mildly). It's just that, the HUGE stresses (drugs, incredible bodyweights, etc.) that are required to perform such otherworldly feats usually don't allow for more than one all-out run at the prize.

Injury requiring surgery at this level is more often than not a death knell for future record glory.

Blacks simply are not built for absolute strength.

Not that there haven't been some unreal black strength athletes, because there have been. But facts are facts. Whites of Northern European heritage own and will likely always own this world.

James Henderson, an Arfican American, was the first human to bench 700+raw. Mark Henry, of WWE fame, is considered to be one of the top 3 strongest men who have ever lived. Just sayin'.

Yes. As I say, there have been some amazingly successful black strength athletes.

On a side note, I spent a weekend with Henry at a mutual friend's house east of Toronto. Huge and friendly man.

Now that that's cleared up, let me congratulate this man on his feat.

That press is absolutely faultless. It was smooth, even, no chest compression, and a powerful drive.

Seeing a human bench press that much weight boggles the knowing mind.

This man is a TRUE freak.

I'm just shaking my head ...  :o

Anyone who has ever powerlifted with those thin 25kg plates and been a newbie beside people pressing 4 or more 25kg plates/side knows how weak you feel beside people like this guy. I respect these raw lifts, who cares about the arch, way more than the shirted lifts of 1000lbs+.
