when i first joined, getbig  introduced me to the 'all drugs' doctrine.  elsewhere, i rarely ever heard about steroids or other 'less scrupulous' aspects of 'the industry'.

these days, you can hardly find a single youtube fitness video where the creator isn't accused of being a 'fake natty'.

has the general fitness-interested public become drastically more aware of bodybuilding's 'underbelly' in the past five years, or is it just me?

Many online trends have originated with Getbig, but this isn't one of them. I see you joined Getbig in November of 2010. Here is a thread from that month bashing anti-steroid pioneer SteroidsR4Losers.

can't believe i forgot about that guy... wonder whatever happened to him?

still, back in those days i never read anything about steroids when I visited bbing.com or t-nation's forums.  guys like christian thibaudeau eemed (to me, at the time) to escape scrutiny.  Now even guys like matt oguz are widely considered to be liars.

I'm not saying GB started anything, just seems like popular opinion is now much more in line with the GB climate.

The general public is certainly more aware of steroid use, but, it's because of high profile steroid scandals: Macguire/Sosa, Barry Bonds and Arod.

I recall when Macguire/Sosa were having their home run race, I  told all my non-bodybuilding savy friends that they were both on steroids. At the time, you didn't hear a word about this from anyone on sports talk radio.  These morons couldn't understand how steroids could help a baseball player, as if hitting a ball farther and harder isn't an advantage. Now, the same sports talk geeks are all steroid experts.

Plenty of people here still think those who are smaller juicers are Natty or don't understand basic things. I remember people thinking The Situation was natural just because he's not that big

A lot of this traces back to 16-18 year old kids on Youtube, BB.com etc. that have been in the gym a few months parroting second-hand drug "info" they read somewhere in an attempt to come off as knowledgeable. Don't underestimate the impact the proliferation of that has on its own.

Stories of steroid use in professional sports like football, baseball, track & field as well as cycling have had a FAR greater impact on the public's awareness of steroid use than an obscure bodybuilding forum like getbig.
