Interesting info and good insight into this realm, but the comment about VG was his gross revenue.  I still think it's plausible (I'll admit not being familiar with the metrics behind earnings), but the top earners are making real money.  And the TOP earner is doing it just filming himself playing games, so I doubt his production costs are significant.
They are all liars.

http://www.businessinsider.com/how-much-money-youtube-stars-actually-make-2014-2

But before you buy a videocamera and tell your boss to shove it, consider what it costs to become a YouTube star. Turns out you can be one of the most famous people on the web and still barely get by.

The New York Times recently profiled Olga Kay, another YouTube star who does self-deprecating monologues on female American life (are you sensing a theme here?). It's a great story if you want some hard numbers on the costs and revenues of being internet famous:

Kay has earned $100,000 to $300,000 in each of the last three years. She has 1 million subscribers. That number is merely the gross revenue, however.
She makes 20 videos a week, all of which are filled with ads via Google's automated YouTube partners program.
Kay likely gets about $7.60 per 1,000 ad views, down from $9.35 in 2012, according to TubeMogul, which buys and sells video ads.
Ads are only run on a minority of videos shown. Roughly, a video creator will earn $2,000 for every million views. "And then YouTube takes 45 percent," the Times notes. (The IRS will take its cut of the remainder, too.)
Kay spends $500-$700 a week on editing costs.

In other words, Kay is probably getting by on less than 50% of what her videos make in gross revenue. In a $100,000 year, she might be looking at $21,000 annually, after YouTube's cut, taxes and editing costs, according to our back-of the-envelope math ($100,000 minus $45,000 for YouTube, minus editing costs at $500 per week for 50 weeks, minus 30% for the IRS).

We presume Kay's real numbers are a little more optimistic than that — otherwise why bother?

Jason Calacanis, a well-known Silicon Valley entrepreneur who was part of YouTube's professional partners program, said that to make 10 videos he would spend $25,000 to $75,000 in costs before a dime was earned in advertising:

We were huge fans of YouTube ... but we are not creating content anymore because it’s simply not sustainable. YouTube is an awesome place to build a brand, but it is a horrible place to build a business.

That's just what I was about to post.  There's always that part about "expenses" and taxes and there's no way around it since Youtube/Google has to send everyone a 1099.  I get one every year from Adsense

Vince what type of "expenses" are you referring to?  Obviously an individual or group producing a YouTube show would have expenses but in the case of a normal person like yourself or even someone with a following like DLB o r the Hodge Twins they aren't using much more than Flip cams/camcorders/computers to record video. They aren't using a post production film crew...

If you were going to post that, then that shows that neither the Vegan Gains or the Hodge Twins can be making anywhere near the numbers you posted.

Vegan Gains channel has 23mil views. If he gets paid $2000 for every million views (CPMs have actually dropped significantly even since this article was published) then that's $460000. The Hodge Twins have two channels with cumulative views of about 400mil. One channel is about 8 years old and the other is 5 years old.  When you factor in youtube's cut, they are making about $40,000 a piece based on that article.

But that's only a rough outline. It could be less or more based on how youtube distributes the ads. But it's definitely not half a million for the Hodge twins. $40,000 is nothing to sneeze at, though.

Some clever scheme to join these views with some online services/goods and one could be looking at serious money. Actually even a fraction of these million views could generate decent revenue in adsense or similar service, if part of the traffic would be redirected. Too bad most of these are narcissistic morons enjoying themselves in front of a camera and nothing more.

It's actually against youtube's terms of service to do that. You aren't allowed to use graphical title cards in your video is you have an outside sponsor and you technically can't link to an affiliate retail program like amazon. There are people who do it, but youtube is iffy about enforcing it. If youtube was a significant revenue stream for me, I wouldn't risk it.

He makes between 10-14k a month with his Vegan Gains Channel and his Vegan Games site makes about 200 bucks a month which isn't bad for just playing video games.

Deadset start a channel and just start by ripping into these guys. You already have an online presence to promote it. Just attack them until they attack back and boom, Youtube views. I'd rather watch your channel than Vegan No Gains or that Jason Blaha. Call him Vegan No Gains too you know that's gold  :D

Actually they are.  The Hodge Twins are part of the Collective Digital Studio Network....same as that Lucas guy who does the Fred Figglehorn, Epic Chef, Annoying Orange, etc.

I don't know all of the expenses for everyone but its a lot more than some Flip Cam filming.   Just remember that there's only a scant few that are making decent money and the vast majority are losing money with Youtube videos.  That's why I'm taking my time on this

There's no-one who has gotten rich solely with Youtube videos.  The real money comes from sponsorships and outside ventures related to Youtube.  When I state revenue...its GROSS and not NET.   The majority of that revenue goes to Youtube and the IRS and from that, it doesn't leave much for anyone.

Vegan Gains will eventually end up on the losing end because he's being sued by multiple individuals for slander.  Legal fees will put him out of business and messing with Arnold is not a great idea when he has money to burn

Doesn't Vegan Gains live in his mom's basement? He probably has a very low cost of living so I bet he can live very well on the Utoob money and other ventures. Seems like a smart guy, although crazy.

Goodrum, Tbombz and Vissy should start a channel together called "HIV Gains" or similar.

Attack everyone and poz them.

Channel would bring in loads of Bitcoins.
