Can you imagine the epic meltdown that Star Wars fans would have if someone spoiled it for them?  :D :D

Like that YouTube knucklehead who drove past the midnight line at B&N just to spoil the Dumbledorff (?) murder, ruining it for all the desperately eager Potter fans who'd been up all night waiting for the book's release. Really pissed off a few diehards.

Angry Star Wars Fans Threaten To Spoil The Force Awakens

http://news.yahoo.com/angry-star-wars-fans-threaten-to-spoil-the-force-183235138.html

According to Bleeding Cool, a group of angry ‘Star Wars’ fans have threatened the unimaginable – to spoil the plot of ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ unless their demands are met.

But do they want money? Fame? Jedi Training? Not exactly…

“The Alliance to Preserve the Expanded Universe is a Star Wars private Facebook group that organises petitions against Disney and Lucasfilm,” they explain, “asking them to continue creating stories based in Star Wars Legends, the brand formerly known as the Expanded Universe.”

Thrawn trilogy was fucking huge and great addition to the star wars universe. For Disney to do this was idiotic but not surprising because Disney wants to turn Star Wars into a perpetual cash cow for the next 10 years.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thrawn_trilogy
Essentially, that’s all the comic books, novels and other stories based in the ‘Star Wars’ universe which never made it to the big screen. They’ve been published across all forms of media for decades… but when Disney acquired the ‘Star Wars’ franchise, they decided to wipe the slate clean.

“The Expanded Universe closed down and rebranded Star Wars Legends, to make way for new continuity based on the new movies.”

This meant that the Expanded Universe was rendered obsolete… and these particular ‘Star Wars’ fans aren’t happy about it.

I can see why....Lucasfilm in one swoop wiped out the hundreds of books and comics written about the expanded universe.

The thrawn trilogy, the yuzhan vong invasion and the dark luke skywalker comics. The Thrawn book trilogy was fucking amazing and a great addition to the Star Wars universe. For Disney to completely shit on it is not surprising though.

I recently listened to the latest edition audiobooks of the Thrawn trilogy.
Solid. Really enjoyed them. Highly recommended

I thought the newest three Star Wars were good. Especially the first one when you learn Jar Jar Binks is a Sith Lord.

Most fans remember the first three from when they were young. Nothing was bad when you were young it was all new and amazing. Then they watch the new three when they are older and they are never going to measure up.

SO useless, with everyone posting shit every 2 seconds it's impossible to keep anything a secret.  Pretty sure assholes will be tweeting real time as the movie rolls on.

Would be a meltdown of the same caliber as Hipolito Meija and the Schmoes would have if Kai Greene didn't show up on his One-Man-Event in NYC!

White towels would be flying everywhere!

lol. I should have attended the Kai Greene event in NYC.  :D :D

Don't get me started.  At the 1999 Mr. Olympia we were lined up outside waiting to get into the final show and some asshole rolled by and yelled "Ronnie Won".  It ruined the whole night for us.

It will eventually be spoiled by someone. People can't keep their mouths closed. I know a few people who are not using social media until they see the movie lol.

"This iPod generation..."

What an ignorant post.

Star Wars has caused movie-goer hysteria since it first his in 1977.  Cosplayers, long lines and record-crushing sales are products of the 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s and now the 10s.

Idiot.

Another twat that probably took a personal day off to go watch a fucking movie that has nothing new to offer... one thing was the die hard fans of the 70's/80's who would collect/buy  everything related to the "saga" return of the Jedy etc....

Today is sickening ! you have the iPod/metrosexual/Millenials/hipsters/Lumbersexual and you ! that take this movie WAY TOO SERIOUS its pathetic, embarrassing and beyond respect....

If you paid more than $15.00  to watch it than you're an idiot...

Now fuck off and go to bed with your stuffed Yoda and sword that glows in the dark..... douche bag pussy of a man.

Well, you know Disney was going to shit on it. I wonder if Lucas has any say in any of this.

Nope, Lucas said he had a lot of input but Disney didn't want any of it so Lucas said he just walked away for good and wished them best of luck.  Disney wanted the lead female and Hebrew and didn't care about anything else.

Damn. I am not a huge Star Wars fan, so I will not lose sleep over it. But sucks they would not let him have any input.

Here's some quotes from Lucas

“The Star Wars story is really the tragedy of Darth Vader. That is the story. Once Vader dies, he doesn’t come back to life, The Emperor doesn’t get cloned and Luke doesn’t get married.”

Iger told Bloomberg, “We thought from a storytelling perspective they had a lot of potential,” but they ultimately decided to branch off to new adventures, abandoning Lucas’ ideas and input for a sequel trilogy.

Ultimately Disney and new Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy decided to go their own way. “We’ve made some departures,” Kennedy told Vanity Fair, but conceded that the differences were “exactly the way you would in any development process.” Lucas himself seemed completely fine with being cut out, admitting in an interview with Kathleen Kennedy for StarWars.com, “I always said I wasn’t going to do any more, and that’s true, because I’m not going to do any more. But that doesn’t mean I’m unwilling to turn it over to Kathy to do more.”

The Female lead is part of Disney's push for the last few years from the movie Frozen to the new Pixar film about a Hawaiin hero, the movie Brave etc...

The thing that Disney seems to be missing is the fact that the vast majority of Star Wars fans are men. And since its already an established franchise, these are the fans they should be catering to. Men have a hard time relating to a woman lead. That's why movies like die hard and Rambo do well with men as their target audience. If Rambo was replaced by a woman, I guarantee it wouldn't have picked up a cult following of men like it did.
Female leads are fine, if the franchise has a history of that and it has been successful or its a new franchise all together (like Frozen or Brave). It just doesn't work in a movie that has had a history of male leads.

They realize that they already have the man base and are now trying to broaden the scope.  This is a huge cash cow for them.  The movie is nothing more than a commercial to sell toys.  They were estimating $3 billion in toy sales.  Abrams is no retard either.  He is only doing this movie and not the follow up.  he knows this will rake in the cash no matter how good or bad, the true test is the follow up movie which I think won't be 1/2 as popular and at that point he can request the world for Disney to come back and do a third.
