Also just because it's handy, Disposable Heroes. An HBO America Undercover special from 1984, about how busted out some of these guys are for the sport, and how the NFL was handling it back then -

http://vimeo.com/4683642 .
Hey, they trash soldiers who come back from war, as well. But SF knows that society is well-informed as to their 'disposable' nature, as well. No need to write articles.

Adult athletes who are willingly entering a sport should do the research on the game.

If they don't, then its their responsibility when they get injured.

The information is out there. Its their responsibility to find it.

And, yet, you still not have provided me a framework for how the NFL should go about informing the players. Make them read a book? Watch a video? Read some journal articles? Sign a contract that it entails the risk (if thats not already done). What should the NFL do?

No. Money.    ;D

Now we get to the root issue. Money.  8)

If the babies want to play tackle and make big money they need to stop worrying about the boo boo on their head.

There are other ways to make money, Walmart and Burger King are always hiring.

Would the NFL teams be able to sell 100 dollar plus tickets and pay off the bonds for Stadia if the linemen only weighed 225 lbs?

Here's the PBS documentary on the tug of war the NFL has with the retired players over this issue, I remember it being a good watch -

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/frontline/film/league-of-denial/ .

Also just because I've got it handy, an early 80's PBS expose on the NFL, the Mob, and sports betting/game fixing that ruffled a lot of feathers back then -

.

Great video. Thanks. My guess is that game fixing is going on today with the owners and the refs and assorted long term coaches...

The concussion stuff is bullshit, a handful of problems with no look at the millions who play safely. Hyped bullshit.  Wussification of America by no dad mommy state people who fear and hate anything tough, especially something that teaches many kids discipline and hard work.  The population would be littered with brain dead zombified former players if all this hype was true.  No answer to this common sense debunking in this thread.

Go back to band practice marching with your trumpet.

LOL @ "I had no idea crashing my head into another's helmet for 20 years would have any affect upon my health".

LOL @ "I really believe the NFL had no idea about the long-term damages".

Both sides are putz dumb asses on this issue.  NFL playing dumb after stuffing players with shots and telling them to play thru major injuries and concussions, and dumb ass player willing to play thru massive injuries because working 9-5 wasn't their thing.

Screw idiots on both sides.

Couldn't care less about the NFL, but this stuff bleeds down to where people think it is something far more dangerous than it is leading to wussification.  Like parents taking away a kids cap pistol.

They tried trotting out Frank Gifford recently on this concussion issue.  The dude lived to 85 and had a heck of a life, not exactly the poster child for supporting the dangers.

It's plainly obvious with the refs and shitty calls and the timing with the rise of Daily Fantasy Leagues.  The timing is spot on when the refs start fucking over teams and the intro of these gambling fantasy sites.

You're right, they are ok getting paid millions but want to blame the NFL for head injuries they knew were part of the risks. What about blue collar factory workers and construction workers, I'm sure they sustain ailments from their jobs but they don't get shit. They know it's part of doing physical work. These millionaire babies always with their hands out.

Sf1900 I don't follow football either but I follow wrestling and some of these guys are doing the same concussion shit the NFL players are doing. I like how former WWE wrestler Lance Storm put it; he said they are all adults and knew the risks going in. I could probably find the audio if anyone is interested.

Worker's compensation? Blue collar workers do get compo, just not to same extent, but they are not earning the same.

The issue was that there was a cover-up. The concussion issue was known, and the causes, but it was consciously ignored, stated not to be a risk, and rule changes were not implemented.

The helmets are a large reason for concussions... that and shitty tackling. They never wrap arms around player, they shoulder charge like idiots relying on padding. It is spreading to other sports now, or else more awareness, but how can you stop people getting bigger (hence bigger collisions) or people tackling more aggressively? You can't - just don't lie about it. NFL lied.

Eddie Redmayne is trying so desperately for an oscar that he did Stephen Hawking last year and a trannie this year. I think of he adds Islam or some other left wing trending issue he could do it.

A Holocaust film will get him an Oscar.

That is so early 1990s. A transexual handicapped Syrian refugee would tick just about enough boxes.

I saw a Christmas story on Sky News earlier with a Syrian refugee in a wheelchair - with photos of when she was rescued at sea in a wheelchair. How thoughtful of her parents to bring her on an unseaworthy vessel. I won't complain about helping a disabled person, just don't shove them on a raft and float them here expecting help when they will have a higher chance of dying than from their illness.
