My experience...
I have probably gone through 2 liters of Diet Coke daily for the last 3 years.
I've researched all the ingredients of Diet Coke extensively, both as single agents and also as combined with each other within the drink.
The only detrimental effect that I found from consuming Diet Coke comes from the active ingredient Phosphoric Acid.
The findings from a study conducted in 2003 (see link below) suggest that:
"When phosphoric acid comes packaged with other nutrients, it's absorbed normally and everything is in balance. We think the problem with cola is that you're getting those doses of phosphoric acid without any calcium. It's not balanced, and that extra phosphorus binds with calcium and prevents it from being absorbed"Study can be found here:

Keeping in mind that I take a daily multivitamin and generously dose with Vitamin D and Calcium supplements, while working out 3-5 times per week, my bone density scans showed MARGINAL decreases in overall bone density. These decreases, as per my primary care doctor, did not place me at a substantially higher risk for fractures. Had I not kept a steady supplementation regimen, coupled with my workouts, maybe things would be different.
As a result of my findings, I continue to consume large amounts of Diet Coke daily.
