The Michigan Senate has passed a bill on January28th this year that has left sodomy, inclusive of anal, oral, gay and non-gay acts, punishable by up to 15 years in prison. It isn’t the first time similar bills have been passed, with Michigan accompanied in their oppressive legislations along with Idaho, Utah, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana.

The laws Michigan insist on upholding are referenced within the conduct of bestiality – which could see one charged registered on a sex offences list; despite U.S. Supreme Court rulings that deem this ban unconstitutional.

The SB 219 reads on page 20 and 21, that “A person who commits the abominable and detestable crime against nature either with mankind or with any animal is guilty of a felony,” and that the person caught will face “not more than 15 years in prison.”

The entire document prior to the last entries notated, documents general housekeeping and welfare of animals from the type of dog kennel expected to house your pet to pitting dogs against each other in a fighting ring. “Mankind” only makes it on the final pages.

The Senate Bill is still to pass through the House for approval, but in the eyes of some, “mankind” warrants being locked up for an act that has nothing to do with animal welfare. Putting consensual oral and anal sex in the same category as bestiality erodes the freedoms of consenting adults.

I really hope Ontario/Canada never pulls this shit. I don't even know how they'd enforce it! I mean, if they catch people doing it in public, there are already laws against public sex acts, so this would fall under those. This would only apply to people having butt sex or oral sex in the privacy of their home.

These laws have already been ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court in Lawrence v. Texas, so they carry no weight, regardless of laws against sodomy at the state level. This is just politicians trying to appease their socially conservative / evangelical base, especially in light of the gay marriage ruling last year.

Where in the Constitution does it mention the federal primacy over sexual preference? I will wait.

Vince mentioned "federal law", not the Constitution.

"Privacy"' in the 4th amendment is on some shaky constitutional ground. I would like it to be strengthened via the amendment process. Article V, please.
