Anyone decorate their house with antique decor?
« on: February 10, 2016, 06:20:04 PM »
Just want to see if it's popular to ecotage with old fashion decor and furniture. Today's furniture sucks so I am more interested in all antique furnishings and furniture.

I know. Was going to add a no homo but didn't think it would be enough.

Been looking online and 1900s farmhouse looks interesting.

Some. I have Goodform aluminum chairs like these -

.

And some other antique steel furniture from the 40's - 60's.

Also little odds and ends like bookends, lamps, etc....

Right but do you actually live in a 1900s farmhouse?  Just plopping antique furniture into a house with modern finishes wouldn't suit its character.  Your shits gotta integrate, hommie.  What's your floor, walls, and ceiling now?

This can be a tricky decorating choice. If you get it wrong, your place will look like a granny house or a museum. This being said, the quality of craftsmanship in much of the furniture you find today is poor, even when you purchase what is considered higher end product. Successful decorators are doing a great job of mixing it up, so that the décor is fresh.

True antiques are items that are over 100 years old. Anything newer is really just used furniture. Some used furniture will break the budget, especially if in is iconic mid-century and with a famous designer's name attached.

Excellent point. I'm just renting now but when I buy would like an old farmhouse or rural home on acreage, or cabin.

So just decorate the interior to go with the style and period of the home?

If you live in an old farm house and you fill it with old farmhouse furniture, it will resemble a movie set, not a home. It's all about mixing things up.
