I'm an oldie as in 50+
Some Great Physiques around Nowadays
& Some Horrid ones also.

No different to The 90's 80's 70's Etc.
More exaggerated I see now with the
Effects of High dose Steroids/ GH / Insulin.

As For All Drugs Have We Not All Seen Pics
Of Arnold at 19. Or Arnold when off Gear.

Don't get me wrong Arnold when he was on was
One of the best ever.

It is more than a little difficult to know who is or was
Taking what & how much.

So the All drugs thing is very weak.

How do we know What Reeves or Park or Arnold or Zane or Shawn
Or Ronnie or Even Phil Heath Took / are Taking.
Let alone Quantities compared to each other.

Best thing about the Past Is I Was Younger.  ;)

Sorry, GetBiggerts. I can't talk about anyone's demise, but....

WOW!  ... I'm finding this to be a very interesting 'conversation' mainly due to the fact that I've had loads of fond memories since the 'good old days' 'through the present (which have been pretty damn good too!)

I've hd the opportunity to meet and/or become good friends with about 80%s of the individuals mentioned with this board since the days of Reeves and Eifferman and so many others who have been long gone and  roughly 80% of every famous individual mentioned on this Board along with most of the good stuff and just a little bit of the bad stuff

GetBiggers love to hear about what occurred or might have occurred along the way.

So I find it interesting to hear the comments from you guys /gals who were still a 'gleam in your father's eye' and can only 'see' what you think that happened .... which is most likely very  distant from reality.

I cannot disagree with SF and TEF and  a few other statements regarding "inflation' but when I was growing up a home of your own was much more affordable and could be achieved even if only one member the household worked.

That's damn near impossible today!

And to the best of my knowledge there was no form of WELFARE way back then.

It is definitely debatable but some old timers say that was the turning point.

And most GetBiggers may not be aware of this but ..... there were homes, hospitals, institutions that cared for (some say, "Locked up! would be more appropriate) individuals who were a threat to themselves or society until some well-intended president set them free.

That also may have helped to put the breaks on them good old days.

But what's most evident to me is the fact that most everyone wants to blame someone other than themselves for their own actions.

And there is so much more, even stuff that is deifnitely body building related, but that's another story in itself.

So... the good old days as us Old Day Guys recall them ... are long gone and will never return! ....

Never return for us old day guys ..... BUT .....

This good old days will return when you present day guys get old enough to recall your own Good Old Days.

Most likely you will agree  that things were so much better way back then.

I think it's contagious but you just don't know it yet.

(Sorry to have gotten off track here!)

But to make it more bodybuilding related .... I've invited a good number of the pros to sit in at the judging table, but each of them declined for their own personal reason.

A lot of wisdom in this post!

Many come with the 'all drugs' statement when a noticeably smaller formal champ shows up, unless his name is Arnold, so it not someone's PED use that matters, but IF they like his personally and from which era he is  ::)
In fact, I don't even understand why people with a strong anti-PED attitude are hanging out on a bodybuilding(!)-forum ::)

Not about this kid.  What, pray tell, is good about this individual?  What?  How is one supposed to be "positive" about someone as drug built and ignorant as this young man?  Shall I damn him with faint praise?  Should I sing the praises of PJ and his company for sponsoring such a great athlete?

What I do is no different than others here save that I do it better. So often people make light of the Christ and I could easily (and sometimes do) turn a phrase before turning a cheek. But I digress...

What is good about this manlets physique, his state of mind, his future?  Near as one can honestly tell, nothing.  As Judge Smails said in "Caddyshack" - "Well, the world needs ditch diggers too."

I'm not being negative, rather I am positive that he and his drug built body are worthless.  Again, point out something truly worthy about this sort of person.  Now point out something truly worthy about his sponsor(s).  About the so-called "Industry".

Look, even the HA has a Toy Run at Christmas time but that most assuredly doesn't erase the evil they do.

You desire positive?  Bob Paris should have won a few Mr. Olympias.   Lee Labrada too.  I am quite positive about that.  I cannot change the past but neither will I kowtow to the present state of idiocy that is bodybuilding.  If I see someone or something that merits praise, I will give it.

Praising mediocrity, lauding cookie-cutter over-drugged look alike bodies is not something a rational, thinking person does.
Now don't go dragging rational, thinking people into this for fucks sake.

But it's people like Dan Hill and the others who literally stop training.

In the past there appeared to be some appreciation for bodybuilding. Nowadays we see, too often, a pro retire and just stop working out altogether and not living a fitness lifestyle. Who wants to see that?

The "all drug" mentality goes beyond simply abuse of drugs.

OK, in this context the 'all drugs' comment makes sense. Only a relative small group is passionate about training & nutrition from a health/wellness perspective.

Let me state I Like Arnold.
At His Peak Arguably the Best Physique ever.
Yet we Never hear 'The All Drugs' Towards Him.

To many dislike a person / Physique & Label them
'All Drugs'

Why do Some come on a open forum knowing that
Lifters take PED'S to a greater or lesser extent &
Then moan about it.

OH And How Their Great Physique idol was oh so
Natural.

As an oldie myself I think Some should take the rose
Tinted Glasses off & Wake up Smell The Coffee.

Difference Now is
We are just more aware of what they get up to.  :o

Some intelligent and interesting comments above.

I hope that the following doesn't dummy it up, but ........

It's always good to read this 'stuff' when this stuff is discussed intelligently from both sides of the coin.

As a sideline, I can almost guarantee each and every one of you GetBiggers that competitive bodybuilders of the future will be completely different physically than they are at present.

Bloated guts and far from aesthetic builds will slowly fade away and should be completely gone by 2025.

You may not notice it .... but bodybuilding competitions will gradually blend into something more along the lines of 'classic' competitions.

But yet! ...... It's also a possibility (a very remote possibility) that classic competitions can slowly evolve into what we see today once more.

BUT .... no matter how it all turns out ... GetBiggers will continue to complain and moan and groan and continue to argue with and belittle those who have been successful within a field that is important to tham as individuals.

This arguing and bickering and possibly even a slight case of jealousy has been going on since the days when a guy name Reeves took off his shirt and had his picture taken.

And ain't nothing gonna stop it.

Like it or not, as long as there is a public, there should (and will) be a stage for everyone. Even when a large organisation decides to stop with a certain class, then another organizer/organization will fill that gap. Compare it with different tastes in music/cars/foods/etc, that's simply how the market runs.

Todays' bodybuilding is a sham.  I wouldn't want my kids participating in competitive bodybuilding.

Like Hollyweird, strip off the tinsel from bodybuilding and you'll find the real tinsel underneath.   I am with Stunt in that I hope for the best but until things change for the better, I will continue to look to the past for inspiration.

Especially the 40s through the 50s.  The 70s were more my time as I came of age then but I already knew about the use of drugs.  I used to go to the original Gold's and the guys were quite open about their use but they were also very cautious about said use. Seems they wanted to live less for the moment and more with an eye toward their future.  Not all of them, just the ones still alive today.

It's said that a man that has seen the passage of a great many years, if he is fortunate, will still see life through the eyes of a child.

Most can't do jack shit without steroids, it's a mentality that without drugs why bother, Shawn, Cormier retired and pretty much didn't touch a weight again. Guys like levrone and flex were pretty much the same but since they were pushing their own supplement line, they had to look the part. Flex said it on film that he doesn't even want to be in the gym a few years back while doing biceps curls and was half assing it

Guys like Ronnie like it or not just love to train regardless but he's also a mental case that doesn't know when to stop

I think Ronnie became a police officer to facilitate his gym time. Unlike others, he didn't have to look to schmoes or magazine/supp endorsement in order to pay the bills.

He looked great! And didn't place last. His tan was smudged I noticed, not sure what happened there. He just needs more size and he'll be competitive with the best of them.
Bright future ahead of this kid for sure.

I think you're wrong there...
Cody almost reminds me of a very young Jay Cutler. Structurally he's like Jay, and I think he has a lot of room to grow. He'll shock some people within the next few years I think. He's only 21, he's got plenty of time to grow and improve.
