Unless the guy was physically threatening someone, the audience should not be physically assaulting them. Its not their job. Leave it to the authorities to take care of the situation, unless people in the audience felt their life to be in imminent risk.

It's a tough one, for me.

On one hand I feel punching that nitwit was wrong. On the other hand: I feel people would act out less if punches in the face (for bad behavior) happened regularly.

Well, that may or may not be true. However, we can only really discuss what the law is.

I am no lawyer or judge, but last I checked, you couldn't punch someone dead in the face for disrupting an event, even a private one (unless they posed some imminent physical risk to others). Let the authorities deal with it.

Who are laws supposed to protect? I think it's wrong that one person can essentially limit the free speech of others while abusing the law's protection.

I thought this was common knowledge.

You can say your piece but if you attempt to shut down another persons speech by disrupting their event, you are not protected. You can however hold your own event at a different location and air your issues there.

This being said, The punch qualifies as a physical assault and there are laws against that.
