I am paid to fight. I am not yet paid to promote.

Maybe he feels that way, but if he's making millions of dollars and he's being asked to do a few press conferences and events, then he should do it.  The FANS are the reason 25 minutes of his fighting is worth a million bucks, not his 'skill'.

Marshawn lynch did the same thing.  Coudln't be bothered to do interviews, had to give disrespectful one-liner answers.  And it does play well with the anti-authority fans who love to see reporters and coaches spurned.

Maybe mcgregor isn't really a prima donna douche... maybe he's just trying to tap into that fan base.  Cost himself a lot of money backing out of this fight now.  Sounds like he's having 2nd thoughts now.

connor just pretty much buried his career

two of his past three opponents had one week fight camps

dont hear the media talking about that much.   aldo was coming off a 14 month layoff as well.

Why doesn't Diaz come out and call him chicken? Diaz had like a week to train for McGregor. Diaz should be all over McGregor right now. That's the move Diaz should be making. Diaz should turn the tables on McGregor.

This.  They could build and hype the rematch off this.

I believe this goes two ways as well. The UFC gave him everything he has asked for. No other fighter in the history of the promotion has gotten the treatment he has. The reason he has gotten the paycheques he has is due to promotion. He understands this. People tune in to watch and hear him. He has brought a number of fans that never followed the UFC or MMA because of his relentless self promotion. The media will be largely focused on him had he made his appearance to promote the fight and that's good for the PPV numbers as well as building his brand further. I get that media tours are gruelling but it can't be as bad as the worldwide tour he did to promote the Aldo fight. Yes it's a distraction but feeding the media machine and the hype train is part and parcel of the game. Actors and singers probably don't want to fly from city to city doing media tours whenever the have their movie/album coming out and talk to some random interviewer over and over again. What if Arnold said he's famous enough so there's no point in him doing late night shows because people will watch his movie anyway. He still gets out there and does his part.

It's my party and I'll cry if I want to. Sorry Connor but part of your payment is for promotion.

This. He makes good points in his post but at the end of the day he's still an employee and he still has a job to do. The promotional side of things is as much a part of the job as the fight. He's used the promotional phase himself to get inside his opponent's heads - he can't just divorce it now and say he needs to prepare and doesn't want to be distracted.

he had no problem with obnoxious press conferences and other tv work when he was winning.

this new magical excuse of "I cannot train AND talk to the media" is pure bunk.  You make millions BECAUSE of your personality and entertainment for the fans.  You're not paid to be a great fighter... you're paid because your presence/personality/show draws in millions of PPV buys.   And he had no problem with all that pre-game media stuff AND training when he was kicking everyone's asses.

UFC offered to move his entire gym + rebuild it identically so he could train uninterrupted.  How many hours a day is he seriously training that he cannot take a few hours daily to do press events?   He wants back in the fight but I bet Dana White keeps him out so the next fighter doesn't pull this bullshit.  Fake retirement, "thanks for the cheese"... he's coming across as a real douche.

Good points but at some point too much press commitments WILL take away from your training.

And him being Conor McGregor the company is going to lean more on him to promote the fight than anyone else, including the guy who just beat him.

If the UFC is grinding him to the level to where it's a distraction then it is an issue.

Now if he's complaining about going to the occasional press conference or having to put in a weekly phone call to Joe Asshole on the Morning Zoo in Bumfuck Nebraska then he doesn't really have a leg to stand on.

I think Joe Rogan nails it at 2:30

Diaz could sucker him in to the rematch just by calling him a pussy. Say that he's no different than the guys who bow out a couple of weeks before a fight for a phantom injury. Use all the shit McGregor has said in the past and use it against him. If I'm in Diaz camp I do this every day. I get on ESPN and call him out etc. That's a massive payday Diaz will miss out on...Diaz should say that he's thinking about starving himself to get down to 145 with the midges and take the belt away from this chump. lol

I respect the company he works for sacrificing money to make sure that they don't set a precedent where an individual has more power than the organisation.  It's the right decision.  It's a no brainer and it happens a lot in sport.

I respect Conor's position but the moment the individual makes the dispute public, he has to lose, though.  I'm guessing he had already lost, of course - but you cannot wilt when he takes it to the public domain.

No, because Conor generated 400 million dollars for the UFC.

Nate was getting paid 20k/20k before..

Yeah because last time Nate fought someone his own size he got his ass whooped badly by a passive Canadian dude:

At least Conor fought Diaz.

He easily could've waited for Dos Anjos to heal up (if he was even hurt)

if he had fought dos anjos he would have been beaten down alot worst than what diaz gave him
