The 'old money' rich people I've met have been pretty happy, chilled people.

The rich people who earned their wealth that I've met have all seemed a bit stressed and didn't necessarily come across as any happier than anyone else. Funnily enough, the new money people were the arrogant ones. The inherited money people were quite normal (although one was a bit out of touch with reality and wanted to know at the time why I just didn't buy a new car if mine was giving me so much trouble).
The richest person I've ever met is the superior of my superior. On the Quote list of richest people here, truly wealthy family. But you're likely to run into him when at a normal pub, or getting lunch at the Pret around the corner. Then again, people like that poser Bilzerian just come across as unbelievably sad, trying their damnedest to convince the general populace that they are happy. Hefner does it for commercial purposes, only then does it makes sense. So overall I'd have to agree with you.

The more you have, the better.
Of course your personality is not uplifted by just having money. I used to know one wealthy family which accumulated good money by heritage and the parents plus 4 children having well paying jobs... but a nest of shabby sociapths. They served me tap water while they themselves drank bottled mineral water.
One day when a friend and I were visiting them, he made a mistake - he asked if he could have a pack of chips.
There was an awkward one minute silence and after that one of the family members uttered a disgruntled: "yes".
Further invitations of his were, of course, cancelled.  ;D
Nonetheless I was welcome because I never talked about money or asked for something - I usually went thirsty the whole time while we were watching movies in their mini cinema or played games over the local network... and we had a blast.

On the other hand there are folks who live a superb life with the help of ample money - money is a tool to carve out the good parts of belonging to our society. No money, no life.

I think it depends on how much of your income goes towards servicing debt.

People on public assistance probably have better lifestyles than many working class citizens simply due to having less stress and more time with their families.

So you are saying melanin-wealthy people should be the happiest demographic?

In absolute terms I do not doubt it. In relative terms as well? Certainly not where I'm from. Generational unemployment are strictly out-of-Africa problems.

It's pretty easy to deduce: Look up what your county spends on social services and then factor in the number of African-Americans. It'll only take a little bit of math and common sense to see who benefits the most from social aid.

Is this class determined by the SF1900 Getbig income scale? Because I might buy off on this janky theory if so.

I see you are carefully avoiding answering the question. Thanks for confirming that the black community's problems are the same in the US as they are here.

Just a quick Google search away: http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2013/07/12/the-politics-and-demographics-of-food-stamp-recipients/

So blacks are over twice as likely to receive food stamps. Given your original statement they should then be the happier demographic. Are they?

I have a friend who makes about 75-80K a year and he is doing totally fine living in NYC. Is he driving a Ferrari, is he taking 8 cruises a year, does he live in a 4.5 million dollar home, like all getbiggers? No. But he has no problems paying the bills and he does NOT live paycheck-to-pacycheck. I may also add that he is not married and has no kids. I know single people who make less than that and make it in NYC.

People have this weird notion that if youre not making 150K in NYC youre homeless.  ??? ??? ??? ??? Ive lived in NYC my whole life, and I have seen people live here in all different types of circumstances.

Now, if youre making 75-80K with a wife and 2 kids, yeah, that is super tough.

Good post. If you don't piss $$ away on dumb shit, or have a Dugger load of kids, you can live a happy life on a moderate income.

  • Hows life? Please, do tell.
Please refer to my classification scheme regarding the way getbiggers classify income.

SF1900's classification scheme to describe socioeconomic status based on income per year. Data was collected from Getbig.com

Source:

1900, SF (2015). An alternative classification scheme to describe socioeconomic status. Journal of Getbig.com, 14, 150-190. doi: schmoe

>$99,000 - homeless

$100,000 - $450,000 = poor

$451,000 - $750,000 = low middle class

$751,000 - $1,000,000 - middle class

$1,100,000 - $5,000,0000 = upper middle class

$5,100,000 - $50,000,000 = rich

$51,000,000+ = super wealthy

fixed, lets not get over the top
