At the risk of sounding a little morbid, just imagine these guys as pall-bearers!  They'd be flexing and waddling so hard it would be a sight to behold... Is the oil supposed to look bad or is it some kind of fashion/lifestyle statement, like face tattoos or piercing?

Only asking because injected muscles or implants never look good. I'm curious if they serve some other purpose.

In this context, what it appears to be is trying to look as hardcore as possible in the shortest amount of time. So, yes. It's a delusional person trying to also make a fashion/lifestyle statement.
