Pretty sure you can't be sued for doing nothing and letting people die, but can definitely be sued for causing someone's death so the correct answer if you own a home or have a significant net worth is to just walk away.

Most people would do nothing and be okay with the outcome. The disconnect in our minds between active and passive killing is very strong.

A trained operator would choose to pull the lever.
