I thought Silver was this predictive analyst, who used that data + his own theories to predict what would happen.  Worked with 2012, didn't work with Trump.   

I thought RCP was straight factual data, and Nate Silver was a pretend-guru that just USED that info to concoct his own theories/predictions?

When the polls show trump getting owned ... just as predicted by EVERYONE then the polls must be wrong. Such is the delusional mindset of the trump supporter. One needs to present a specific flaw in the polling methodology.

The last election the Republicans polled themselves and predicted a Romney win. The flaw was they neglected to include the rest of the voters outside of their own echo chamber. But don't let this dissuade you. Santa is coming with a wall in his bag for Christmas.

Regarding Brexit, exactly.  Polls are worthless on anything slightly close.  The margin of error means they are right either way.  Maybe after Teump wins they'll post some articles claiming that the secret internal polls never released publicly showed it all along, like with Reagan.

It's pretty hard to draw conclusions because the analysts seem to have ignored the poll data showing a late stage surge for out voters. same thing with trump, because I recall him polling well ahead despite the analysts so I would not dismiss the poll data at all. there seems to be a sharp difference in online polling vs traditional methods. Looks like the online polls are more accurate if you want to identify a specific flaw.

long story short these examples support the case that polls should not be ignored.
