Why is population a factor in your assessment. Has nothing to do with the size of the teams nor the competitors at the Olympics. Each nation represents itself with competitors, not it's population.

Even so, many of these countries invest large amounts of money specifically into their athletes. Athletes get special treatments.

Usain Bolt is from Jamaica--hardly a booming country, yet he destroys the competition, no matter the country. Why? Because Bolt is the best. Plain and simple. You either have the best athletes or you don't.

China has been doing very well, compare them in the 80's and 90's to now and they have jumped all the way to usually 2nd next to the US, in 2008 I believe they had more gold medals than US and was over 100 total

Now Germany and Russia is just sad bring back East Germany and Soviet Union
