Happened to me, crutches for a 6 weeks and leg brace for 4 months.
Barely managed to sit on the shitter. The gf had to sponge bathe me. Was humiliating.
The atrophy was ridiculous. Its still a little smaller than the right leg.
100% recovery.

My advice don't be a dickhead and take the time off to make a complete recovery.

How much did all the hospital shit cost you over there in Neverland?
It's covered by the basic medical insurance. That's income related plus an extra 120 euro's a month.
Mind: in Holland we pay lotsa income taxes, I pay between 42 en 52 %....,

Thanks for this reaction.
Being dependent on others is indeed humiliating, but thank god it was your gf. For me 'sitting on the shitter' is one of the lousiest things too.

How long did it take you to train back from atrophy ? What exercises worked best. Did you get back to full squatting ?  I got a adjustble legpress at home, I guess that will be my baby when I got green light to start training.

With me it's my right leg, which always was a bit bigger than the left one. Guess I won't have that problem for some time.....

These things typically happen to phaggots that have it coming…. too fucking feeble and pathetic to exist intact. Only a matter of time before you 'rupture' something else.

This thread is very informative to me. Most people wish me luck and a good recovery (even a few who don't particularly like me or my posts), but some are just being assholes.
Let me say this: I don't wish anyone an injury like I got, not even the assholes.

It does give me another view on old/senior people who are lonely all the time and are physically incapable of going out. Must be a shit life, because it'll only get worse for them. I am in my 40s, got kids that are helpfull, and the Dutch social security systeem will keep the paychecks coming in. Thank God my freelance activities were very minor the past few years.

Supporters: thank you !
Haters: try another attitude. You may like it.

Yesterday another nice day at the hospital.
The two short-haired ladies from the plaster-room removed my 2-week old plaster and immediately started to apply another one. But that wasn't the deal.

Two weeks before I had pointed out already that I didn't want plaster again this day, but a removable brace so I could start with increasing ROM (passively) twice a day. "No, sir, we just follow the protocol for a ruptured quad tendon repair, and that's a stiff plaster for 6 weeks." Well, maybe over there, but not in lot's of other hospitals, including the Academic Hospital in the area were I live. 6 Weeks in full extension gets any joint (ij this case my knee) to stiffen up completely and the quads to shorten. Takes weeks of extra fysical therapy afterwards.

So I simply refused and just lay there for a while until the surgeon who operated on my knee walked in.
After some discussion he could agree with the brace and starting with passive flexing up to 60 degrees building up over 3,5 weeks.

The point of this story, my fellow getbiggers, friends and foes: the standard protocol in not-specialized settings is not to do what's best for the patient, but what's easiest and the least risky for the staff/personnell.
Always get yourself informed and demand to see the dude or dudesse in charge.
Have a plan upfront and get to read your file (operation report in my case).
And remember that protocols are for the average housewife, not for us.

Serious advice from
Dr Dutch

I had a complete quad/patella rupture on october 3rd 2015.
Hurt like hell ...... as a former college football , bodybuilder , wrestler and pro-strongman i had a lot of injury but nothing compare top this.
The first 2 weeks a was in bed all day
after i was able to walk to the toilet in crutches.
at the end of december i was able to walk a little bit ....not too long as i weighted 365 pounds
took me about 3 month to get 90 degre mobility .... that was the thing that worked not very well
in january my full mobility was back
deadlifted 700 pounds and squatted 500 by april ...... less than before ....but still good with that kind of injury
april i began wrestling again
running
jumping
in may i begun strongman events training
in july i pulled a 10 wheeler

now september my leg is about 80% of its previous strenght
my muscle is a little smaller than the other leg
still hurt 20-30% of the time
training and sports go well what hurt much is standing long perdiod of time
lost 55 pounds ... that helped too

be patient
it will heal
but it will hurt like hell .... sorry for that

good luck with your recovery

Update september 19th, for those who are interested in a devestating injury for those seeking muscle gains. Others can go to another Kevin-thread of their choice.....

6 Weeks after my quad-tear: visited the orthopedic surgeon. He examened my knee and quad and concluded everything goes as it should. Extension plaster/brace 24/7 can go, I can start increasing ROM but must be very careful not to actively use my quad too much.
Upper leg shrinked beyond belief. I trained my good leg very hard, one leg leg press. Kept its size I think. Seeing right and left together, finally allowed to flex a bit harder, the teardrop has almost vanished from the injured leg. Looks like some old dudes leg.....

Coming 6 weeks: increasing ROM, little bit strength maintenance (keeping what's left) and practize walking again. After the 6 weeks I am allowed to train the muscle back. Finally gonna test the concept of Muscle Memory myself.

So this is not my own knee in that vid, but it is exactly what happened to me a week ago: complete rupture from the quadriceps tendon from the patella. Stupid accident, not BB related at all.
This is a relatively rare injury,  I think JP Fux had it bilaterally a decade or so ago.

I got operated on immediately and have a full extension plaster now.
I can almost feel the muscle atrophy away by the day allready.

Any of you ever had this ?
Mind: it's not the patella-tibia tendon but the quad-patella tendon.
It sucks and hurts like fuck.

Vince McMahon had it when entering the ring at the 2005 Royal Rumble.  :'(
