Ruptured quad tendon right leg
« on: August 22, 2016, 05:57:01 AM »

So this is not my own knee in that vid, but it is exactly what happened to me a week ago: complete rupture from the quadriceps tendon from the patella. Stupid accident, not BB related at all.
This is a relatively rare injury,  I think JP Fux had it bilaterally a decade or so ago.

I got operated on immediately and have a full extension plaster now.
I can almost feel the muscle atrophy away by the day allready.

Any of you ever had this ?
Mind: it's not the patella-tibia tendon but the quad-patella tendon.
It sucks and hurts like fuck.

Pulled is not ruptured. A hamstring rupture is very very unlikely...

How did you rupture it?
I did ass-to-to-the-floor squats with 500+ pounds........I'd wish..

I just missed a step with my kids visiting the zoo; fell with my lower leg completely flexed, with my 245 lbs dropping on it. I immediately knew what was wrong.
Now with my complete leg in plaster it's even hard to get to sit a bit comfortably on the toilet.
Orthopedic surgeon told me it was a 'nice rupture' and because my muscles were 'quite big' (as far as he was concerned) I could make a complete recovery. Takes time though.

I still hurts like shit if I do to much...

Thank you DP for your good wishes...I'm not always a lame poster you know. I still prefer to be on speaking terms.

I just feel like shit now, being an invalid.  Tomorrow I restart training, upper body first, nothing below the umbilicus....

I'll Be Back.

I posted this because I hope that real BB would know what an injury like this means. There's really nothing you can do than lying down and sitting exercises. Back traing: only pulldown shit. Chest: barbell to risky, just DB.
Cardio is zero. Ab work is risky cause you always use your rectus femoris.

It's a devastating injury for a BB lover......I hope you fellow GB'ers will never experiece this.

thank you.

Good luck!
The muscle will regain size nearly as fast as it went once you can activate it again.
You could try meditation to aid the body in the healing process which should also calm the mind.

Yeah, it seems that visualizing the muscle work will indeed speed up recovery....

be aware of blood clots in leg can move to lung and heart  which causes major problems.. doc might put you on blood thinners or baby aspirin..over exercise can cause them to move..just like lying there can cause them... take it from someone who's been there.

You didn't. So it doesn't belong in this thread. I pulled lotsa muscles over the years. Hurts like hell, but heals in a week or so.

Most people get operated on for a partial rupture. A complete is rare.  I had a complete rupture of the bicep. The bicep rolled up to my delt. It took me about 6 months after the operation to regain my strength back and it was a long road. I went to physical therapy but the majority was me working on it. First was regaining range of motion. Then is was curls with 1lb weights. At about 4 months I attempted a pull up and it scared me to death I would rip out the repair. Around 6 months later I was deadlifting. I think it's about 95% good. It seems it messed up my shoulder somehow too. The bicep looks a little off but nothing to complain about.  I would imagine a leg is going to be long recovery.  Don't do anything until you get the okay from the doctor. Take it really slow.

Two guys i know in the gym both that this happen to them doing walking lunges with no more than 35 pound dumbbells in the past 12 months. I think shit like this happens when you subconsciously relax the muscle even for just a second or so...

What an awful injury.  :o  The blood thinner is necessary but can slow down the healing.
