I have neither read nor heard of any IFBB judging criteria changes being made regarding bodybuilding contests, but numerous conversations on various boards stating that Arnold's recent remarks insinuate that changes are possibly being considered.
So with that said ........
This is a recent shot of Chris Bumstead who had just won his IFBB Bodybuilding Pro Card at the IFBB North American Bodybuilding Championships which was contested on 31 August 2016.
This was the amateur event for NPC competitors who wanted to win an IFBB Pro Card.
Chris placed 1st within the heavies.
That IFBB Pro Card will now enable Chris to compete in a number of professional IFBB bodybuilding events held worldwide and make a damn good living by doing so .... providing that he places within the money.
But if Chris does in fact compete in a forthcoming IFBB bodybuilding event in the condition in which he won the NA will he have enough muscle mass to 'win, place, or show' in order to take home his share of the cash awards?
By today's professional bodybuilding judging standards, I would say, "No!" if I was asked such a question.
He's simply not massive enough.
But if a big change occurs (a remote possibility) Chris just might be what todays IFBB may be looking for.
Note the small waist and lean muscle mass which is not too very common among winners within the IFBB bodybuilding events unless a change has been or will be made within the IFBB bodybuilding judging criteria.
This is unlikely no matter who desires it to occur simply due to the fact that there is a new IFBB event called Classic Physique which might be more suitable for Chris and others who have the desire to remain within the boundaries of esthetics
Many years ago if you exceeded an esthetic appearance you were 'politely' referred to as a "bulky blunder" who was unable to excel in any worthwhile sporting activity. This of course had been proven incorrect by many of todays professional athletes.
I believe that Chris and many others like Chris have a difficult decision to make once they obtain that prized IFBB Pro Card.
Do I proceed to get massive and compete agains the big boys or .... do I give that up and go the Physique route?
I think that Chris Bumstead has a great career ahead of him no matter what his decision may be.
Arguments are appreciated and most welcome.
