I have neither read nor heard of any IFBB judging criteria changes being made regarding bodybuilding contests, but numerous conversations on various boards stating that Arnold's recent remarks insinuate that changes are possibly being considered.

So with that said ........

This is a recent shot of Chris Bumstead who had just won his IFBB Bodybuilding Pro Card at the IFBB North American Bodybuilding  Championships which was contested on 31 August 2016.

This was the amateur event for NPC competitors who wanted to win an IFBB Pro Card.

Chris placed 1st within the heavies.

That IFBB Pro Card will now enable Chris to compete in a number of professional IFBB bodybuilding events held worldwide and make a damn good living by doing so .... providing that he places within the money.

But if Chris does in fact compete in a forthcoming IFBB bodybuilding event in the condition in which he won the NA will he have enough muscle mass to 'win, place, or show' in order to take home his share of the cash awards?

By today's professional bodybuilding judging standards, I would say, "No!" if I was asked such a question.

He's simply not massive enough.

But if a big change occurs (a remote possibility) Chris just might be what todays IFBB may be looking for.

Note the small waist and lean muscle mass which is not too very common among winners within the IFBB bodybuilding events unless a change has been or will be made  within the IFBB bodybuilding judging criteria.

This is unlikely no matter who desires it to occur simply due to the fact that there is a new IFBB event called Classic Physique which might be more suitable for Chris and others who have the desire to remain within the boundaries of esthetics

Many years ago if you exceeded an esthetic appearance you were 'politely'  referred to as a "bulky blunder" who was unable to excel in any worthwhile sporting activity. This of course had been proven incorrect by many of todays professional athletes.

I believe that Chris and many others like Chris have a difficult decision to make once they obtain that prized IFBB Pro Card.

Do I proceed to get massive and compete agains the big boys or .... do I give that up and go the Physique route?

I think that Chris Bumstead has a great career ahead of him no matter what his decision may be.

Arguments are appreciated and most welcome.

Good comments, but that is not the best photo that shows him at his best. I am just too lazy to find that really good one and the ones that I did find are jpeg and I cannot change it or load it unless it is jpg (without the "e").

I believe that Chris (CBum) was more of a powerlifter before a good friend of his convinced him to give bodybuilding a try.

Mortal, I agree with ya regarding that his future is within physique but I bet ya a dollar to a hot dog that he wants to compete within the bodybuilding events.

Regardless of his choice, I think that he has a good future ahead of him within the IFBB and it will be interesting to see what supp companies make him an offer that he can't refuse.

ROYALTY, the 'off' you mentioned may be that he is just too damn lean/narrow.

NARC, Yea, it's definite that he trains hard and diets well but it will be interesting if he can carry that impressiveness into pro bodybuilding.

Solid physique. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt about that "Bulking" t-shirt. Might have also a sense of irony.

NARC, Thanks for posting 'them thar' shots of Chris and his sister (is that really his sister?)

I do think that those pre-contest shots show him at his best. He must have weighed more than 224 lbs when they were taken because he said that he weighed 224 at the NA weigh-ins and he does appear somewhat smaller in those contest shots.

And it's remotely possible that the first shot of Chris I posted was taken a year or more ago.

It would be interesting to see what he could do as a super as it appears that he has a lot more 'growth potential'.

And he's only 22. (Some say 21.)

I think that this competitor will be setting new standards within the world of bodybuilding/physique competition.

Here is my uneducated guess of what he will be doing in the near future:

Add size and bodywt and compete as a super-heavy  with an attempt to qualify for entry into the 2017 or the 2018 Olympia.

That's a best guess estimate.

Can anyone list the IFBB bodybuilding events in which pro contenders can qualify for the Oly? I have no idea how that's done anymore.

Found it!

Here's how you can qualify for the the Olympia unless the following info is outdated. (I seem to recall reading on this Board that there was some sort of 'point system' which was used as a guideline for Oly entry, but it is not mentioned below.

A competitor can qualify to compete in the Mr. Olympia through eight (?) different routes.

Route #1: He is the current Mr. Olympia.
Route #2: He is a former Mr. Olympia.
Route #3: He finished in the top three of either of the previous two Mr. Olympia contests.
Route #4: He finished in the top 10 of the previous year's Mr. Olympia.
Route #5: He finished in the top 5 of the same year's Arnold Classic.
Route #6: He finished in the top 5 of the same year's Night of Champion.
Route #7: He finished in the top 3 of an IFBB Pro contest that has taken place after the previous year's Mr. Olympia. If the top 3 are already qualified, then the 4th place competitor is eligible for the Mr. Olympia.
Route #8: The promoter of each year's Mr. Olympia is allowed to invite one non-qualified competitor. In certain years, a second invite has been extended, although quite rarely.

The IFBB site says that there are 9 Routes but I cannot find #9 anywhere, but I am sure that some GetBigger will suggest more  than one Route #9'S.

KWON, I am not sure about his height but I would guess about 6' based on the contest line up photos.. There does seem to be a lack of info about Chris on the net, but a hell of a lot of  pictures ... a few of which are posted here thanks to NarcissisticDeity.

Delts look like it might be SEO but he pulls it off extremely well. Impressive physique for sure, good looking dude also (full homo). Not sure why he wants to go into hardcore bodybuilding when he can run 1/4 the dose and get more money and bitches in men's physique

EQUIPOSE, Chris staying within the bodybuilding competition arena is only an assumption on my part.

He may damn well get into Physique competition but it is remotely possible that he did not get the 1st place overall win at the  North America
simply as a way of encouraging him to compete among the IFBB supers.

That's definitely a debatable assumption....  but he has a hell of a lot of growth potential which could make him a serious threat within he IFBB which just might be looking for a 'new look' among the Olympia contending IFBB pros.

New look ... meaning more aesthetic appearing.

In the old days we called it 'functional muscle'.

Thinking way ahead..... but I may be completely wrong.

This is from way back. It has been top 6 in route #4, and your missing route #9 is winning the IFBB world championships or how it's called these days...(Ronnie e.g.)
And the NOC isn't named liked that anymore for years.
Do your homework or stay away.
