I rather think was one of the very few that kept his voice as he was aging....compare him to DL Roth or even Dickinson, and both are younger than RJD was.. 8)

As far as holding on to their voice, no one is even close to Rodgers.

He has such a unique style of playing that everything else forms around him, imo, no matter what that is.

And that's pretty much it - drums should rarely shape a song; they should complement it.

Also, he relies too much on the tribal rhythm bullshit, rock is blues-based.

I suppose that's fair, but I think talentwise, he's one of the, if not the best of all time.

I hear that, see it in drummer polls and such. Not sure why, though. He's figured out the single-stroke roll is all. Fantastic, what else?

Every drummer anywhere will tell you the song comes first - that subtlety and nuance matter. But they seem to forget this when they praise Moon.

Maybe that's why he played so well with betas like Stevie Winwood and Eric Clapton.

Just a convenient excuse for him to meet black chicks, imo.

You're trying to make this a thing, l get it. But it's just my preference is all, and I explained why.

So fuck his tribal nonsense, this is a rock thread.

David lee roth -vocals

john bonham drums

john paul johns-  bass

prince -lead guitar

David Lee Roth hasn't been able to sing for years. His last tour with Van Halen was painful to listen to.

True.  Quite a minor disagreement in such a big world.  I call a truce.

Vocals d and guitar are impossible for me because they change daily for me :-\
One day it could be SRV and the next it could be Page. same with vocals. one day it could be Greg Allman then the next it could be Jim Morrison.

Why?

More of a personality driven decision.

The rest of those guys are mostly on the straight and narrow so I added him to give the band a little kick.

Speaking of this, I'm also fine with saying Bruce Dickinson instead of Axl.

Prime Bruce was fucking amazing.

Funny, At the time you posted this I was like no way because I kept thinking of Bruce now that he's older and cant sing like his younger days.

...but lately I've been listening to ''Piece of Mind" and you're right. I forgot what a awesome singer he was back in the day!

There is no such thing, universally.  It all comes down to opinions and personal preferences.

When I first heard Number of the Beast, I was a youngster and was absolutely blown away by Bruce... From then until probably Fear of the Dark, I thought he was just the best thing I had ever heard.

His Accident of Birth Album was also really good, but yeah, today, his voice is just older and run down, it's not his fault, dude is gotta be pushing 60 by now.

Age gets us all.

GNR 1986.   Wouldn't change a thing.

Yup. For me, they were the epitome of rock n roll music and excess. Except for Axl they were all unremarkable on their own, but together they just kicked ass.

This is a very impressive performance of a very hard song to sing by 63 year old Mickey Thomas.

1. The create the feel of the original band.

2. To have a vag on-call 24/7.
