Ellison seeks House ethics investigation of abuse allegation

Minnesota Democratic Rep. Keith Ellison said Wednesday he's requesting a House Ethics Committee investigation into the allegation of physical abuse from an ex-girlfriend that is clouding his bid for attorney general and complicating Democrats' push to investigate allegations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

Karen Monahan said last month Ellison dragged her off a bed by her feet while screaming obscenities at her. She claimed to have video footage of the 2016 incident but has declined to release it. Ellison, a longtime and fiercely liberal congressman from Minneapolis and deputy chairman of the Democratic National Committee, has denied it ever happened.

McCaskill takes a hit in the polls after opposing Kavanaugh confirmation

Incumbent Democratic Senator Claire McCaskill came out in opposition to confirming Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court 10 days ago. This move may have been ill advised as polls show she now trails her GOP opponent, Josh Hawley.

Previous polls in the last month have been tied. Hawley's slight surge after the senator announced her opposition to Kavanaugh may be an omen of things to come.

Breitbart:

A new poll released by The Missouri Scout on Saturday shows that Republican challenger Josh Hawley has taken a two point lead over Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) in the Missouri Senate race just days after she announced she will be voting against the confirmation of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.
Hawley leads McCaskill by a margin of 48 percent to 46 percent in the poll conducted by Missouri Scout over two days, from Wednesday, September 26 to Thursday, September 27.

McCaskill announced her opposition to Kavanaugh on September 19. The second day of the poll was conducted on the same day Judge Kavanaugh and Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, who has accused him of attempting to sexually assault her 36 years ago at a time and place she cannot recall and with no corroborating witnesses or evidence, testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Significantly, the poll found that 49 percent of likely voters said the Supreme Court confirmation process for Brett Kavanaugh has made them less likely to vote for McCaskill, while only 42 percent said it made them more likely to vote for her.

The overall seven point deficit for McCaskill on this important question helps explain why Hawley has jumped into a two point lead. Even though the results are barely within the 2.5 percent margin of error, they are different than three national polls conducted earlier in September, all of which showed the race tied.

New poll suggests Heidi Heitkamp in trouble if she votes against Kavanaugh, hurting Democrats' chances of Senate takeover

A new poll shows Republican challenger Rep. Kevin Cramer leading Sen. Heidi Heitkamp by a 10- point margin, with North Dakotans overwhelmingly in favor of confirming Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Losing a race in North Dakota would make it significantly more difficult for Democrats to retake the Senate.

The poll, from Mason Dixon and North Dakota's NBC affiliate, shows Cramer opening up a 51 percent to 41 percent lead over the Democratic incumbent.

The poll also finds North Dakotans support the confirmation of Kavanaugh by a 60 percent to 27 percent margin. Furthermore, the survey found that at 21 percent, more people rated Kavanaugh as their top concern than any other single issue.

The poll was taken after sexual misconduct allegations surfaced against Kavanaugh, but before last week's hearing on the matter.

Should Democrats lose North Dakota, it would mean that they'd have to hold all of their other Senate seats in red states, win in Arizona and Nevada, and also win in either Texas or Tennessee.

If this polling is confirmed by others, it will put heavy pressure on Heitkamp to back Kavanaugh if this week's FBI investigation does not turn up any evidence that discredits him or corroborates accuser Christine Blasey Ford

Sliming Maria Elvira Salazar: Laughable Desperation Move, Even for the Democrats

The Party fired off a press release Friday headlined, "Maria Elvira Salazar Condemned Over Insulting and Divisive Comments About Immigrants." It accused the Hispanic television personality of making "highly insulting and divisive comments about America's immigrants."

Really? A news professional as popular as Salazar, who until January covered the heart of Miami, one of the most diverse communities in America ... a racist? This I had to see.

I Beg to Differ"Salazar's comments take a page from Donald Trump's playbook by diminishing the contributions of undocumented immigrants and insinuating they are mostly suited 'to pick up Jalapeño peppers in Southern California or to clean toilets in Orlando or in Manhattan,'" said Javier Hernandez, spokesperson for the Florida Democratic Party.

An outraged Hernandez called Salazar's "divisive rhetoric ... disgusting," claiming "Maria Elvira is peddling racist stereotypes and diminishing the many contributions immigrants have made, and continue to make, throughout our great nation.

"Contrary to what she and Trump might believe, immigrants are more than just 'the help.'"

Well, lucky for recipients of the press release, the FDP included "proof" -- video conversations Salazar had with MSNBC and the Miami Herald editorial board.

Maybe the Party thinks voters are dolts, that all Hernandez has to do is drop Trump's name in the same breath as the Republican candidate's, and Salazar's goose is cooked.

Or maybe they think the headline will have the same effect as subliminal advertising, that voters are only headline grazers who won't investigate the latest thought drummed into their heads, won't watch the video "proof."

In either case, it's an attempt to treat the voters of CD 27 like blithering idiots.

Hernandez turned Salazar into a monster (he hoped) by pulling a line out of her conversation with Kasie Hunt during an MSNBC interview: "'That's why we need to reform our immigration system'," he quoted the Republican as saying, "'and we need to give visas to those that are coming to pick up Jalapeño peppers in Southern California or to clean toilets in Orlando or in Manhattan'."

He quoted her again during her Sept. 26 editorial board meeting with the Herald: "'Give people with no criminal record, the cleaning ladies, the people that are mowing the lawn, they’re picking the jalapeño peppers in Southern California -- those people deserve to have some type of legality, even though they are illegal or they came in without the proper documentation, but the system allowed them to stay. ...

“'Right now in Texas, I don’t know if you know this, but in Texas, you have an underground railroad funded and led by the business owners of America -- construction people, people that need to finish the homes, so they need workers. Somebody has to put the cement and the 4x4s. So the business-owners, or the construction moguls, are the coyotes.”

These are the words, the Party spokesman tells us, that should outrage all voters.

New Senate race poll drops — and it’s bad news for Beto

Republican U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz has a nine-point lead in his bid for reelection, according to a new poll released Tuesday.

With seven weeks until Election Day, Cruz has a 54 percent to 45 percent lead over Democratic challenger U.S. Rep. Beto O’Rourke of El Paso among likely voters, according to a new Quinnipiac University poll released Tuesday.

“The Texas U.S. Senate race between Sen. Ted Cruz and Congressman Beto O’Rourke, and Democratic hopes for an upset win there, have boosted talk of a Senate takeover,” said Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the poll. “These numbers may calm that talk.

“Congressman O’Rourke may be drawing big crowds and media attention, but Texas likely voters like Sen. Cruz better.”

Ninety-three percent of likely Texas voters say their mind is already made up in this race, which has been more competitive than expected in a state that has not elected a Democrat to statewide office in more than 20 years.

Tuesday’s poll comes nearly two months after a previous Quinnipiac poll, which looked at registered voters, showed Cruz with 49 percent of the vote to O’Rourke’s 43 percent. A Texas Lyceum poll released that same day showed Cruz with a slim lead of 41 percent to O’Rourke’s 39 percent.

Poll officials warn that Tuesday’s poll is their first survey of likely voters “and can not be compared to earlier surveys of registered voters.”

Breaking it down
Cruz has support from men, 57 percent who say they’ll vote for Cruz, and white voters, 66 percent who say they’ll vote for Cruz.

Women aren’t as sharply divided in this race, with 50 percent supporting Cruz and 48 percent supporting O’Rourke.

At the same time, 97 percent of black voters and 54 percent of Hispanic voters say they’ll support O’Rourke, the poll shows.

While Cruz has support from 94 percent of Republicans and O’Rourke has support from 94 percent of Democrats, Independent voters are leaning toward O’Rourke, with 51 percent saying they’ll support him and 47 percent supporting Cruz, the poll shows.

This Quinnipiac survey was conducted Sept. 11-17, reaching 807 likely voters on landlines and cell phones. The margin of error is plus or minus 4.1 percentage points.

The poll also shows that Republican Gov. Greg Abbott leads 58-39 over Democrat Lupe Valdez in his re-election bid.

And Texans are divided on the job approval rating for President Donald Trump. They are split 49-49, according to the poll.

The Federal Elections Commission seems to have found some not-too honest money in the coffers of Democratic Senate Challenger Beto O’Rourke.

According to the Daily Caller, the FEC has flagged O’Rourke’s campaign for accepting “excessive” and “impermissible” donations from individuals from outside of the country.

Kavanaugh effect? Quinnipiac shows Dem generic ballot lead cut in half in a month

Does this represent a natural momentum swing as voters get more engaged ahead of the midterms, or evidence of something more? Quinnipiac has produced some of the largest gaps in the aggregated polling on the generic congressional ballot this cycle. Their previous poll, taken at the beginning of September, showed Republicans trailing by a disastrous 14 points with two months to go before the midterms.

Today, it’s seven points — among registered voters:

Five weeks before the Midterm Elections, 49 percent of American voters back the Democratic candidate in their local race for the U.S. House of Representatives and 42 percent support the Republican candidate, according to a Quinnipiac University National Poll released today.

This compares to the results of a September 12 survey by the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University National Poll, showing Democrats with a 52 – 38 percent lead. …

“The numbers suggest the big blue wave may have lost some of its momentum as House races tighten. President Donald Trump’s approval remains deeply in the red,” said Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll.

Bear in mind that the Q-poll’s margin of error is ±3.7%. The movement for either party falls right around the MoE — three points down for Democrats, four points up for Republicans. It’s possible that this is statistical noise, but it doesn’t seem likely. Also worth noting: this is the lowest level polled for Democrats in the Quinnipiac series since at least the first week of July, after which they have remained at 50% or above until now. It also ties the highest level achieved by Republicans in the series from mid-August.

This certainly indicates some movement off the norm, at least in the Q-poll. And it may not actually indicate a turnout model change, either, as Quinnipiac still isn’t applying a likely-voter model to its polling. This change has occurred in the larger population of registered voters, suggesting that a likely-voter model might have shown more momentum in the GOP’s direction.

The Democrats better start sucking up to Blacks, Latinos, and self-hating white women even more because they've lost most of us for a very long time to come after this shameless hatchet job on Mr. Kavanaugh. That doesn't even touch on the fact that they have NO program, no economic platform, no alternatives to Trump's big trade deals, the Iran-NK brinksmanship and diplomacy that are clearly working (Iran's foreign minister was on CNN last Sunday bitching about them, and NK's dictator is on his knees politically), or his tapping into the American spirit with his rallies, off-script press conferences, and tax cuts & jobs. THEY HAVE NO FUCKING PROGRAM.

Blue wave my ass. Shallow puddle with small ripples by the miniature elizabeth warren fangirls on Twitter is more accurate. Keep hashtagging each other from your iphones, nobody fucking reads it. The rest of us have jobs.

Poll: Amid Kavanaugh Confirmation Battle, Democratic Enthusiasm Edge Evaporates

Just over a month away from critical elections across the country, the wide Democratic enthusiasm advantage that has defined the 2018 campaign up to this point has disappeared, according to a new NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll.

In July, there was a 10-point gap between the number of Democrats and Republicans saying the November elections were "very important." Now, that is down to 2 points, a statistical tie.

Democrats' advantage on which party's candidate they are more likely to support has also been cut in half since last month. Democrats still retain a 6-point edge on that question, but it was 12 points after a Marist poll conducted in mid-September.

The results come amid the pitched and hotly partisan confirmation battle over Brett Kavanaugh's nomination to the Supreme Court. Multiple women have accused Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct when he was in high school and college. He categorically denies all the allegations. The FBI is conducting a supplemental investigation into the accusations that is expected to be wrapped up by the end of this week.

With Democrats already fired up for this election, the Kavanaugh confirmation fight has apparently had the effect of rousing a dormant GOP base.

"The result of hearings, at least in the short run, is the Republican base was awakened," noted Lee Miringoff, director of the Marist Institute for Public Opinion, which conducted the poll.

While Democrats and Republicans are now equally enthusiastic about the midterms, the story is very different for key Democratic base groups and independents. While 82 percent of Democrats say the midterms are very important, that's true of just 60 percent of people under 30, 61 percent of Latinos and 65 percent of independents.

Democrats need to net 23 seats to take back control of the House, but if those groups stay home in large numbers, it would blunt potential Democratic gains. With 34 days to go until Election Day, it all points to another election dominated by party activists.

"If there aren't 34 dramatic moments [between now and then], it will be 'my base versus your base,' " Miringoff said. He noted that the Republican move to push Kavanaugh's confirmation forward, despite his unpopularity and that more people believe accuser Christine Blasey Ford than Kavanaugh, appears to be intended to fire up the GOP base in hopes of retaining control of Congress.

"The Republicans' approach has been, and continues to be, all about the base," Miringoff said. "This is their M.O., and that's what we're seeing. That works if turnout is not high.

Trump likely to win whether or not Kavanaugh is confirmed

The ugly partisan brawl over U.S. Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh's confirmation remains undecided, but President Donald Trump appears likely to come out on top regardless of the outcome.

If Kavanaugh is confirmed by the Senate in a vote planned on Saturday, Trump will have succeeded in placing his second justice on the top U.S. court and fulfilled his pledge to solidify its conservative majority.

Even if Kavanaugh is rejected, the battle to save his nomination in the face of sexual misconduct allegations has jolted a slumbering Republican base to life just ahead of the Nov. 6 elections, political strategists and new polls suggest.

Trump's pugnacious style was well suited to the messy drama, and his decision to stick by Kavanaugh, mock the woman who accused the nominee of sexual assault and use the controversy to fire up supporters could help Republicans in key Senate races in conservative states - even if it turns off independents and women voters in suburban House of Representatives districts that were already trending away from Republicans.

Trump, GOP Get A Big Kavanaugh Bounce — IBD/TIPP Poll

The Democrats' all-out attack on Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh, which culminated in a blisteringly partisan hearing last Thursday, may have backfired on the party just before the November elections.

The latest IBD/TIPP poll finds that President Donald Trump's approval ratings made a strong rebound this month, with a four-point gain to 40%, reversing almost the entire loss he suffered the month before. His disapproval rating went from 56% last month to 54% now.

What's more, the Democrats' advantage on the generic ballot question plunged from 11 points last month to just 2 points this month.

My investment guy/broker showed me that in the past when there is a flip in the mid term elections, it’s actually good for the economy. One side is still happy because their pick is still in the whitehouse and the other side is happy because they made some headway. I suppose it’s nof all bad if the wave does happen.

Green Party candidate taking in 4% of the poll. Interesting.

Poll: Martha McSally gaining in Senate race against Kyrsten Sinema

By abc15.com staff | Updated Oct. 9, 2018, 9:30 p.m. PDT

A new poll of Arizona's contested Senate race shows frontrunner Republican Martha McSally increasing her lead over Democrat Kyrsten Sinema.

In the latest ABC15/OH Predictive Insights poll, McSally has a six-point edge on Sinema, 47 percent to 41 percent. Eight percent said they had yet to decide on a candidate.

Both candidates received less support than they did in September when McSally held a 49-46 margin, the first time ABC15/OHPI polling showed her in the lead to replace retiring Sen. Jeff Flake.

Chief pollster Mike Noble said increasing approval for President Trump in recent weeks and the addition of Green Party candidate Angela Green, who received four percent in the poll, to the race have contributed to the separation between McSally and Sinema.

"What we saw all year was Republicans were less united compared to Democrats, who were more united or fully united," Noble said. "So whether they disliked Trump or had issues with the establishment, now what we've seen is [the] Kavanaugh confirmation process has really brought all those Republicans home and has solidified the Republican base, hence why you're seeing all the favorable numbers toward McSally."

However, Noble isn't sure whether the energy provided to Republicans by the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court will last until November 6.

"Since Kavanaugh now has been confirmed, will that hold from now until Election Day? Or, since getting confirmed, do [Republicans] correct back to their previous position? [That] obviously would be not good for the GOP and great for Democrats," Noble said.

The poll, conducted October 1 and 2 through a mix of cell phones and landlines with likely Arizona general election voters, has a margin of error of plus or minus four percent. The sample of 600 respondents has demographics accurately reflected party affiliation, gender, region and age.

Generic Congressional Ballot Is All Tied Up

With less than a month to Election Day, the Generic Congressional Ballot is now dead even.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone and online survey finds that 45% of Likely U.S. Voters would choose the Democratic candidate if the elections for Congress were held today. Another 45% would opt for the Republican. Three percent (3%) prefer some other candidate, and eight percent (8%) are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

The most recent poll shows a HUGE gap with females .
63% of females = will vote democrat on the Nov 6 election

33% of females will vote republican

That's a 30% gap for the GOP.

Men are close but the GOP has a lead: 50% men GOP , 45% men dem

The OVERALL vote and poll avg is 10-13% in favor of dems.

Unless dems fail to show up and vote, a 30-40 seat gain and control of the house of reps will go democratic this time.

The senate will remain close overall and it's going to be tough for dems to flip that, even by one seat.

95% of statistics are made up on the spot.

I see you're using a classic tool in the Trump playbook.

Don't like a poll = declare made up and "fake news"

Like/agree with a poll = solid, accurate info   ;D

You are saying stuff that simply isn't true.

Get it together.

Howard claims to be a mostly republican voter previously but now when democrats are really revealing how disgusting the majority of the senate, etc. is he is going to vote straight democrat. Again Howard reveals his true ideals.

No, it's from a CNN poll.

I know you guys will declare that "fake news" but to me it's one of many reliable sources.

That's not the poll average as you stated earlier.

Fair enough, but I implied it was "their" polling avg.
Obviously, we have all kinds of polls out there.
I do think that a high % of educated career females have left the GOP .

Well in the polls I perused today, it showed your boy Lamb up by 12 in Pennsylvania 17th district.

Maybe you can congratulation him by sliding under his executive desk and taking a nice.........thick...... ...milky load on the face.  ;D
