Grieving is over — Why it's actually a great time to be a Democrat

For a few weeks now I have joined my fellow partisan Democrats, drinking when I was not crying.

The awful memories of those stunned TV commentators snatching defeat from the jaws of a great early exit poll victory. The hard-earned accomplishments of the past 8 years now at risk due to and an unfit, unwelcome new president. Looking ahead to the damage inevitably inflicted by a unified Republican government on the environment, the social safety net and global leadership.

Yet as a new year begins, I find myself past the 5th stage of grief and on to an unexpected new state of mind: optimism.

Because looking beyond the ashes of 2016 and the inevitable initial defeats of 2017, I see immense opportunities for my party and our capacity to lead our country.

It’s a great time to be a Democrat. There are several reasons why.

First and most important, Democrats remain the party of the future. We are the young, the diverse, the tolerant and the educated. Trump’s negative appeals to fear, intolerance and hatred sow the seeds of future Republican defeats and marginalization.

Just as California Governor Pete Wilson’s Proposition 187 consigned the California GOP to permanent minority status, so too will Trump embrace of white nationalism and the alt-right doom the national GOP in a diversifying nation.

Second, Democrats can return to the offensive. President Obama accomplished a great deal, but as with the last years of both Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush’s tenure, it gets harder and harder to imagine and demand reform when you’re busy defending your existing initiatives.

Likewise, Secretary Hillary Clinton is a phenomenal person, and was immensely qualified to be president, but candidates from the past bring baggage from the past. Now is the time to fight for the future.

In that regard, I am very excited by the rising generation of Democratic leaders.

Representing every state and fresh ideas, leaders such as New Jersey Senator Cory Booker, incoming California Attorney General Xavier Becerra, South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg, Louisiana Congressman Cedric Richmond, and Illinois Senator Tammy Duckworth fill out a fantastic bench of creative, capable, inspiring national figures.

Leaders like these are ready to define the future of the Democratic Party, and I’m excited to help them do it.

Though many pundits see challenges for Democrats in 2018, I am optimistic there as well.

It is true we are defending 25 Senate seats around the nation and 10 in states won by Donald Trump, but presidents tend to struggle in midterm elections, especially when they are struggling to make good on their promises.

One does not need to be a partisan warrior to see how challenged President Trump will be to deliver on his outlandish promises.

He promised that Mexico would pay for a border wall, that his secret plan to defeat ISIS would bring peace to the Middle East, that he would release his taxes, avoid conflicts of interest and end drug abuse and violent crime. Trump literally promised Americans would be “tired of winning” which seems regrettably unlikely.

Notwithstanding the partisan gerrymander, we will take back the House in 2018.

Democrats only need to pick up 23 seats to gain control.

Recall President Clinton lost 54 seats in his first midterm, while President Obama lost 63 in 2010. President Bush lost 31 in 2006 as Americans revolted against Congressional corruption and Executive incompetence. I’m expecting to hear “You’re doing a heck of a job, Secretary Perry” any day now. The Democrats will win in 2018 … and win bigly.

Five of the past 6 elections have been change elections.

The pendulum has swung back and forth between the parties because Americans desperately want change but have not been satisfied with the change they got. With new leaders and fresh ideas, Democrats stand ready to finally deliver the change Americans so badly want. But this will not happen by itself.

To the Democrats out there, 2016 is finally over. Time to stand up and dust yourselves off.

It may be just nearly January, but it will 2018 before you know it. Let’s not miss that future. It’s a great time to be a Democrat.

The opportunity is here. Let’s get to work.

David Thomas is a Democratic lobbyist and partner at Mehlman Castagnetti Rosen & Thomas, based in Washington, D.C. During his tenure in government, he served as Deputy Director of Legislative Affairs for Vice President Al Gore; the top lobbyist at the Federal Trade Commission; and most recently Chief of Staff for Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.).

Folks are so overly dramatic these days. Can this be attributed to the "me" generation?  I must be out of sync. I've yet to shed a tear over the election and I don't use the results as an excuse to drink. Who needs excuses for drinking anyway?  ;D

Obama staffers can’t find work in Trump’s DC: ‘There are no jobs’

As outgoing President Barack Obama plans to head off on vacation when he vacates the White House next week, his staffers and appointees are struggling to find work in Washington, D.C.

Following President-elect Donald Trump’s victory and Republicans’ major electoral gains in November, outgoing Obama employees and loyalists to failed Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton have found their job prospects in the District foundering, according to Politico.

“It feels like there are just thousands of us trying to find a job, and there are no jobs,” longtime Clinton aide Mira Patel, who worked for Clinton in her Senate, State Department and 2016 campaign offices, told the outlet.

Following Trump’s surprise victory Nov. 8, Democratic operatives no longer have some 4,000 presidentially appointed jobs for which to apply when the billionaire businessman takes the oath of office Jan. 20.

The Democratic workers who were expecting to see a Clinton White House are reportedly finding the transition especially difficult:

Clinton aides appear to be having a harder time, both emotionally and practically.

“There’s anger, there’s frustration, there’s anxiety, there’s burnout,” said Russ Finkelstein, a managing director at Clearly Next and longtime progressive career guru (including as a founding team member at the lefty jobs board Idealist.org) who has been counseling Clinton alumni.

“People are in shock,” said Anastasia Kessler-Dellaccio, 35, who quit her job at Sister Cities International to run Foreign Policy Professionals for Hillary. Some Clinton campaign workers say they’ve lost their bearings because they’re so rattled by the differences in Trump’s values from those represented by Obama and Clinton.

Kessler-Dellaccio added, “I think people, myself included, are trying to figure out, ‘How do I recalibrate my dreams?’”

But it’s not all bad news. Laslo Bock, Google’s outgoing chief of human resources, has, according to the Wall Street Journal, established a database of résumés to help Obama staffers and Clinton advocates find work after their unexpected yet impending unemployment.

Given the dire situation some outgoing Obama staffers are in: “A lot of us are looking for any fit,” Patel said — the soon-to-be-former president is doing what he can to help his supporters find work in Trump’s Washington.

“The president made it a priority to ensure that, throughout his administration, employees had access to professional development resources and tools to help them advance in their careers and transition to new opportunities,” White House spokeswoman Brandi Hoffine told Politico, describing Obama as “extremely grateful” to those staffers who have stayed with him over the years.

No shit.  It's like they thought the gravy train would last forever. They need to go out and find a real job now. I'm sure some big company will pick them up if they're worth a shit. How about the Clinton foundation?

Madonna Says She Offered To Devote Life to God While Praying Trump Would Lose On Election Night
Daily Mail ^ | 10:54 EST, 11 January 2017 | Chris Spargo
Posted on 1/11/2017, 3:14:47 PM by drewh

Madonna said in a new interview that she turned to a higher power the night of the election hoping that it would help Hillary Clinton defeat Donald Trump.

'On election night I was sitting at a table with my agent, who is also one of my very best friends, and we were truly praying. We were praying,' revealed the singer in the February issue of Harper's Bazaar.

'It was just like watching a horror show. And then she was reading from the Quran, and I was reading from the Zohar,' said Madonna, referring to the collection of stories about Jewish mysticism that is central to the Kabbalah.

'We were doing everything: lighting candles, meditating, praying, offering our lives to God forever, if only.'

In the end, Clinton did not defeat Trump, and months later Madonna is still struggling to accept that reality.

'It's like being dumped by a lover and also being stuck in a nightmare,' said Madonna.

Madonna said that her difficulty accepting Trump's win began the night of the election, and that she finds it more difficult to deal with her new reality in the morning.

'I went to sleep, and since that night, I wake up every morning and it's like when you break up with somebody who has really broken your heart,' explained Madonna.

'You wake up and for a second you're just you, and then you go, "Oh, the person I love more than anything has just broken my heart, and I'm devastated and I'm broken and I have nothing. I'm lost."'

The singer also said she finds herself saying each day: 'Wait a second. Donald Trump is the president. It's not a bad dream. It really happened.'

Future Abortionist Says: I Cried When Donald Trump Defeated Hillary Clinton
LIFE NEWS ^ | January 9, 2017 | Micaiah Bilger
Posted on 1/11/2017, 7:10:12 AM by Morgana

Like so many others, Allison Schneider was bitterly disappointed when she woke up on Nov. 9 to learn that Donald Trump – and not Hillary Clinton – won the presidential race.

Schneider, an OB-GYN resident intern at the Kaiser Oakland Medical Center in California, recently wrote a column for the Huffington Post about how she hopes to be an abortion practitioner some day and how the election results affect her work.

She wrote:

The afternoon of November 8th, I felt elated. My co-resident and I had successfully placed an IUD in a frightened 17 year-old in need of emergency contraception, preventing an unwanted teen pregnancy. And, a woman was about to be elected president.

The next day, as I stared numbly at my computer at 6:30am in the pre-operative charting room, I struggled to keep my mind focused on the surgeries I was going to perform that day.

My senior resident, a woman of unflappable composure in even the most dire emergencies, walked into the room. We looked at each other, embraced, and cried. This strong surgeon, mother, and mentor briefly cracked under the weight of the visceral grief we shared.

It’s no secret that abortion advocates really wanted – and expected — Hillary Clinton to win the presidential election. Clinton supported abortion on demand, including late-term abortions, and opposed common sense regulations such as sex-selection abortion bans and safety requirements for abortion facilities.

In comparison, Donald Trump describes himself as pro-life and has been filling his administration with strong pro-life leaders who oppose abortion. Among the current hopes are that federal lawmakers will soon move to defund the abortion giant Planned Parenthood of its nearly half a billion dollars in taxpayer funding. Trump promised to sign such a measure if it reaches his desk.

Trump also promised to appoint “pro-life” justices to the U.S. Supreme Court. One seat, that of the late Justice Antonin Scalia, currently is open. Several more also could come open under Trump’s administration, creating the possibility of a conservative-majority court that could reverse Roe v. Wade.

Both of these promises are worrisome in Schneider’s mind:

As women’s health care providers, we cannot stand on the sidelines and watch while Roe v. Wade and Title X funding ― which supports vital family planning services for the most vulnerable women in our population ― rest on the chopping block. If any one of Trump’s proposed conservative nominees to the Supreme Court are confirmed, we will be fighting once again to preserve a woman’s constitutional right to make her own healthcare choices.

Keep up with the latest pro-life news and information on Twitter.

… If given the opportunity, this administration will wage a war on women’s health and we have to show up to fight it. In states like Ohio, where Governor John Kasich recently signed a bill into law banning abortion after 20 weeks with no exceptions for rape or incest, this battle has already begun.

Schneider ended her column with a call to action, urging abortion supporters like herself to stand up against these pro-life initiatives.

She concluded with these final, ironic words: “Every baby I deliver reminds me of who we’re fighting for. This is their future. They deserve better than Trump’s America, and so do we.”

Unfortunately, it’s those babies who she and her fellow abortion advocates also are fighting against. Because of Roe v. Wade and the work of abortion practitioners in the past 43 years, close to 60 million unborn babies have died unjustly in abortions.

The election results are a signal that the American people are ready for a change. Abortion has destroyed too many babies’ lives and hurt too many women’s and men’s for far too long. Pro-lifers are hopeful that the incoming administration will be one that embraces every human being as a valuable, irreplaceable member of society, including those not yet born.

I voted for Trump, to cut taxes and government regulations. That's what my vote signaled.

I favor abortion on demand, and mandatory abortion, for women on welfare, or any other kind of government support, and for illegal aliens. Cut 'em out, and throw 'em out. The sooner those fetuses hit the dumpster, the sooner it will be better for the American Taxpayers, the American Culture, and the American Future. Getting rid of future welfare bums, and future criminals, via abortion, is a wonderful idea, that should be applied vigorously, for the sake of America.

Trump nemesis Rosie O’Donnell calls for martial law

Donald Trump ripped Rosie O’Donnell during the first Republican presidential debate in 2015, saying that she was the only woman about whom he had ever made disparaging comments.

Now, with less than 10 days until Trump takes the oath of office, O’Donnell says that she’d support “martial law” in order to delay his inauguration.

“FULLY SUPPORT IMPOSING MARTIAL LAW – DELAYING THE INAUGURATION – UNTIL TRUMP IS ‘CLEARED’ OF ALL CHARGES,” O’Donnell wrote in response to a Twitter user who suggested the U.S. military take control of the government until the president-elect can prove he has no financial ties to Russia.

Rosie is raising the hopes of millions of people who don't want President Trump inaugurated. It is highly unlikely that President Elect Trump won't become President on January 20th. Can you even begin to imagine the havoc and carnage this would cause? Let him be President. He will either sink, swim or grow tired of the game he is playing with the American public or we will all (the right and the left) be done him, calling for his impeachment.

Whatever happens or doesn't happen, I believe our nation's immediate future is going to be very challenging and interesting, to say the least.
