Would you know what to do? Where to go? What to avoid? In light of Clapper's recent resignation (and the real reason he's resigning, which is not good, meaning Trump is really going to up the ante in terms of dealing with terrorists) I've been reading up on the subject of a potential nuke going off in downtown Manhattan (where I work). As I understood it, this is what needs to be done (if you make it past the initial blast):
1. Once the nuke explodes, lay down immediately without looking directly at the blast light;
2. Once down, immediately start counting the seconds it takes for the blast to dim out and how long it takes the air blast to reach your location;
3. As of today, our only beef is with Mohammed's disciples, hence the bomb will most likely be less than 10 kilotons, which means that unless you're within 5 miles of the blast center, you have a fighting chance (if you're within the critical area, you're toast... literally);
4. Take a second to look outside and notice the color of the top of the mushroom cloud. If a distinct mushroom shape with a dark top, the fallout will be severe as a lot of dust was picked up and turned highly radioactive, which means you better get home FAST;
5. Since I'm assuming I will be out of the detonation zone and that Mohammed will not miss his 42nd street nº 5 train stop, my next step is to go down to the underground levels and walk the Path tunnel to Jersey City (since the prevalent winds in NYC blow in a SW->NE direction);
6. Get on anything that moves and drive/ride in a westerly direction for about 15 miles and north to the Tappan Zee bridge, all the while ensuring the wind direction is still blowing in a SW->NE direction;
7. As soon as you get to your home, make sure everyone is accounted for and be ready to hunker down for the long haul, as a nuke in NYC would surely bring the city to total collapse for at least a year.
