Late night shows are supposed to be comedy.  But comedy should make fun of everyone, not ignore one side and completely shill for the other.  Alienate more than half a population and your numbers will dwindle.

But yes, people seek out confirmation bias.  We have a very funky example of it here.

Maybe comedy in general does make fun of everyone, not just one side. Comedians on-the-other-hand usually have only one or two easy targets. Moreover, their target audience is what drives them and also makes them unique. Unfortunately for Trump, he is an extremely easy target. He provides a never-ending stream of material for timely jokes.

I've always liked her.  She's a stud.  I voted for her when she was still a Democrat.  Could have been governor or a US senator but overplayed her hand.  They have this pecking order where Democrats have to wait their turn.

Her dad was a Republican in the state senate and the leading proponent for traditional marriage for years.  Then he switched parties and became a Democrat because he had zero power with only one or two Republicans in the state senate.  He's still a Democrat state senator. 

But glad Tulsi left the Democrat party.  I could see her being Rubio's VP if Vance doesn't run.

AOC, Biden, Harris, Swalwell, etc all provide ample material for comedians.  Late Night hosts generally ignore this, and that's a large reason why their ratings suck.

My guess is that you would prefer another Johnny Carson type entertainer. This will happen when the audience demands it.

Regardless of whether Colbert and Fallon are activists, comedians, or both, they are entertainers by profession. Genres change. Colbert and Fallon adapted Carson's genre to fit current media preferences. If today's audiences preferred another Johnny Carson that would be what the networks would provide.
